Vagrant0
Ok, I jumped into the web version of Minecraft and thought it was OK. I certainly wasted a bit of time messing around. I also know that it probably was only 1/2 the experience of the full-blown version but I still got the gist of it. The music was putting me to sleep by the time I finished my 3-story house. http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee11/Conan_Lon/Misc/Minecraft-09.jpg More pics of the various floors. LHammondsThe creative mode isn't even 1/8 the experience of the full blown version. The survival test is a bit closer.http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14759 But the alpha is like a combination of both, plus some crafting, exploring, and spelunking. ub3rman123
I hope you used an inventory editor to get those bricks; I have yet to even see clay in most of my worlds.
LHammonds
The "classic" web version seems to have a full and endless inventory of all the materials...just press B and pick whatever you want to build with. It couldn't have been any easier to jump in and see what the basics are like. NOTE: When my co-worker saw the pics, he immediately noticed the obscene use of Bricks and Obsidian. hehehe. ub3rman123
Oh wait, now I remember. Creative. Heheh. That's black cloth, though. Obsidian is more of a purple. obscene in my view is that use of iron blocks up top. That stuff is too valuable to use as a building supply! I just tried turning enemies on, after building a fortified villa on top of a mesa with at least 6 blocks to the ground on all sides. No way a monster could get in there. I also lit it up so they won't spawn (Except now it's inundated with farm animals) inside. Then I got the finest of diamond gear, armor and swords, and left the gateway to outside the fortress. And promptly got eaten alive by skeletons and spiders. Is there any better way to kill things? Should I be standing on the ramparts with a bow? Skeletons just knock me back as I try to get close to hit them.
LHammonds
From the videos I've seen (that my coworker just has to show me...everyday), if you use a melee weapon to take down skeletons, it seems ideal to be in confined corridors / caves where they cannot attack you until the make it around a corner with you standing right there to take a stab at them. Even better if the area you are waiting in is a bit lower and the bottom cubes next to the floor are removed so you can see their feet coming around the corner before they can see you. If you use a ranged attack...same scenario seems ideal again...where you can attack their feet as they walk down the corridor towards your location. Again, this coming from someone who has never really "played" it. LHammonds
ub3rman123
My main problem is out in the open on the surface; I usually keep my mines well lit enough that no monster spawn./
Vagrant0
My main problem is out in the open on the surface; I usually keep my mines well lit enough that no monster spawn./Which is why you either build walls around your base with spare dirt/cobblestone, and light the inside, or light significant portions of the area around your base. Radically transforming the landscape can also occasionally clear whatever spawns there, or atleast shuffle them around to use different locations. Burning logs in the ground make open grassy areas also double as free-drop areas...
ub3rman123
I usually set trees on fire. I just like being able to walk the plains outside my fortress and night. WHy do the trees never burn all the way to the ground? There's always a few bits that don't disintegrate. Are wooden doors monsterproof? If that's the case I can skip the electronics and just use them.
LHammonds
Are wooden doors monsterproof? From what I understand, yes...meaning they cannot pass through them. However, a poorly lit home might find monsters being spawned in them. LHammonds
TheTerminator2004
So, I've been trying out multiplayer alpha recently. It's pretty interesting, and if you manage to find a good server (with a great map, and some cool people to work with), it has the potential to be one of the best gaming experiences ever. I managed to find a decentish server (amazing map, but half the regulars seem to be in their early teens - and are rather annoying), and spent an enjoyable evening building away. So, let me present the fruits of my labours - Alton Wharf, a modern, luxurious open-plan office development in a very attractive location. Screenshots follow, and if anyone happens to visit the Homelands server, and wants to purchase office space to use, please get in touch. :D http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm181/The_Terminator2004/tower1.jpghttp://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm181/The_Terminator2004/tower2.jpghttp://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm181/The_Terminator2004/tower3.jpghttp://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm181/The_Terminator2004/tower4.jpghttp://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm181/The_Terminator2004/tower5.jpg
