You need to use torches. These are made using sticks (made from wood), and coal. Put one coal above one stick in the crafting window, and you'll get 4 torches.

 

@LHammonds: That's not a pie. That's a tart - pies have pastry over the top (an extremely important distinction) :P Still, it's pretty impressive - I like it. What flavour is it?

Vindekarr: I cannot figure out how you managed to make the lava toggleable. To my knowledge, only thing that runs off electricity and could do that is doors.. And those don't let liquids through. Falling sand or something?

lava comes down from above when you unplug it, and stops coming when you plug it back up again?

So what would one use to unplug and plug it?

Do Iron doors hold out against lava? Could use that if it does. Although in real life I don't think the door would do well

No, doors stop all liquids from passing through.

I cant do anything that good yet, but I made a wood house in the side of a mountain.

I can only find wood, rock, dirt and sand...
