Grammer, and the like

Thank you for the poetic/bardic/gleeman/replies.

I enjoyed them.

I am well answered.

Groveling is not a thing I do well, nor do I consider 'toleration' to be at all related to 'appreciation'.

Clearly enough this is not the place for such, being of little or no interest to the members.

Game called for lack of interest.

Caveatar leaves the jousting field and the real people to return to virtual quests and contests with the AIs of Vvardenfell, Mournhold and Solstheim.

Caveatar, though it must verily appear

That thou hast cast thy pearls before swine

'Tis but the way of the world, I fear -

the resurgence of the philistine

I pray the poet warriors not desist

But laugh in the face of grim defeat

For sure, thine epic verse 'd be sorely missed

Shouldst the battle thou concede.

For Marxist male without a father in completion of his opening line.

There once was a man from Nantucket

Who got his head jammed in a bucket

It was such a tight fit

He could only say "It

took me ages before I unstuck it."

:D

Now what could you have been expecting MB?

Just ran across this from a discussion on IRC that reminded me of this poem I wrote... it's from a game we were participating in.

OOooooo... I like this game... very nice from all of you, btw...

- Silver -

- Night -

- Love -

- Mad -

Attempting to maintain theme with Tolkien's Middle-Earth... I submit for your review in both English and Sindarin:

Ann-thennath le Aear

Ode to the Sea

Or i silith rhofal o tinnu;

On the Silver wings of starlight;

  Fuin dan le lada palath;

  Night falls upon your silken face;

Na i duuurmorth o nin nauth;

In the madness of my mind;

  Im meleth hene.

  I love her.

Okay -

Looking at the topic, I was trying to see if some old geezer like myself could figure out what some of the phonetic shortcuts actually mean. Being somewhat new to forum life, (any forum) it seems to me as though an entire 'dialect' I'll use for current lack of a better term, has evolved. Most of it, the 'u', 'r', '2', etc. is fairly straightforward and I can understand it. What I would like to point out, however, is that not everyone (myself definitely included) is up on current usage. Would it be a faux pas if I were to ask for a someone to post a dictionary so that those like myself know we are not being made fun of, insulted, or whatever behind our backs?

As I said, most of them are clear, and through usage I can figure out things like IRL = In Real Life. Some of them, however, are beyond me. IMHO? Maybe it's just generational.

As far as typos go - I don't mind them. I am disabled and don't have good use of my right hand (or my right brain, most of the time). Therefore, I often get the 'teh's and 'from' instead of 'form' stuff, and, while I do proofread, I do miss some.

Finally, the most important thing to remember is to know your audience. If you are trying to impress, good grammar in whatever language you speak or write is always the best way to do it. If you're clowning around with friends, then slang (which is probably the best word for this) is perfectly acceptable. Like I've said before, communication is the art of making another understand what you are trying to tell them.
