Best Child mod

There are three that I know about, and have only used one.

Xvision Children.

TK Children.

RS Children Overhaul.

I've only used Xvision so far; I had to replace the girl's face and body textures with CBBE ones, so they wouldn't have the shiny/oily face textures, so if you use it, you may want to replace the face/body textures as well. The boys still look a bit weird, but better than vanilla at least.

Not really a fan of TK children, as they still seem to have a bit of a potato-face/all look very similar, despite the new hairs. Also not really interested in RS Child Overhaul, as in my view, it makes all the kids look like teens - if the eyes were bigger, then they'd look more child-like. I'll be sticking with Xvision at this moment in time, but you should look at the options and decide what fits your preferences.

I personally enjoy RS Children Overhaul, but then again, it's the only one I've ever actually used. But asthetically I found it to be the most pleasing to the eye, and made them look like they were really kids. I believe MxR has a review on RS Children Overhaul, and might have one for Xvision. You could look up reviews on YouTube - they should showcase them enough where you can make a choice. :)

DemongelRex:

Sadly, thats where I am too. I was putting up with RCotS, but it got too pervy, and WAY too buggy.

But it did make the kids look good, using adult parts to make them; thats why its so hard to look at the potato-heads now.

Guess Ill go with Skykids for now.

Thanks for the help.

What about killable children mods? There are about five of them floating around. Does anyone have any experience with them?

  • Killable Children (nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/774) has the most endorsements, but that's because it's been around the longest. They can't be pickpocketed but can be targets for TG radiant quests and they grow and shrink when interacting with objects, amongst other issues.
  • Non-essential Children (nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13202) seems to avoid all the major bugs above, but I haven't tried it. It's also Hearthfire compatible and has a GEMS endorsement. It's not Dragonborn compatible, so Aeta (I think she's the only child in DB) might not be non-essential.
  • Killable and Lootable Children (nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/17849) looks similar to NEC, but the documentation isn't as thorough. It's been updated this year though.
  • I've seen Stranger Danger (nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37660) mentioned on /r/skyrim and the like, but it doesn't seem to do anything the above two don't do.
  • This lets you kill everything, so probably isn't that desirable. (nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18388)
  • RS Children has this as a side effect and ignores essentiality.

RS children, if you want to just install one mod +patches (uskp, etc) and be done with it.

Or TK Children + Skin / Head / Skeleton / Clothes.

Both look great with enb skin subsurface scattering (be sure to check out Killers Realistic Skin SSS Patch for ENB).

From other thread:

hey, sorry to bump this old thread, but what mods did you use for the faces of the children? I've modded the adults to look beautiful up to my horrible modding skill and all i got left is to make the children look like they belong.

Just get TK Children.

TK Children are very cute and childish. I might switch back to using this mod. I don't feel the urge to install killable children mod with this. Seriously Bethesda... those are some mean potatoes you got there!

Children appearance mods might change their race and not work with any of the above mods without a patch. From RS Children page:

Compatibility Patch Updates:

  • Non-Essential Children, Stranger Danger, and Height Adjusted Races patches have been updated to reflect the .esm changes.
  • The USKP patch didn't need to be updated.
  • Height Adjusted Races Patch now includes playable version, and has Height Adjusted Races.esm properly set as a master.

If you use Stranger Danger, or Height Adjusted Races, then download their patch below:

Load Order:

Should go something like this... If you don't use USKP or NEC, just ignore those.

RSkyrimChildren.esm

Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp

NonEssentialChildren.esp

RSChildren_V.esp

RSChildren_HF.esp

RSChildren_DB.esp

RSChildren_PatchUSKP.esp

RSChildren_PatchNEC.esp

RSChildren_Override.esp (if you have issues with the faces appearing properly)
