I'm pretty sure why they thought Tolkein was a good choice. There is no chance of them encountering any sex or bad language in his books. Nothing the spamfilter would spot...well normally. They still fail anyway as mine sends these straight to the spambox.

IC- I've just had a really spooky spam-induced experience: This morning, I was humming "True" by Spandau Ballet, while opening todays email. I have put what I was humming in italics, and what I read in bold:

 

"With a thrill in my hand and a pill on my tongue ..." "Just disolve half a pil under your tongue".... "Listening to Marvin, ALL NIGHT LONG...." "PERFECT ERCECTION during 36 hours!" ..... "Why do I find it hard to write the next line..." (incoherent rubbish...) "Oh, I want the truth to be said!" (total lies)

 

 

 

As you can see, it ewas a really spinny, surreal kind of feeling. And to top it all off, the bastards have defiled yet another of my all-time favourite books. How the hell do they know that?!? See for yourselves:

Has anyone ever recieved the emails from the bank of south africa, claiming that some rich dude has just died and they want to use your account to store the money to avoid inheritance tax, and give you a few million from it?

 

 

 

There's actually an online sport called spambaiting, which involves leading these sorts of guys on, giving them fake bank details, and somtimes even arranging meetings (which of course you never turn up to!) I find it quite refreshing. Scamming the scammers. :happy:

Yeah we had loads of that until recently. Apparently it started in Nigeria, and about a year ago they disbanded huge groups that were operating from Spain. Now others are doing the same kind of thing with car sales. They send you a cheque for much more than the price of the car you are selling, and then say "Oops, can you please pay me that back?" Some suckers actually do, before realising that the cheque is false. Now pepole have wised up to that one, the new trend is to offer cars for sale a low prices, asking for a 50% downpayment. The car is in another country, and the seller will send it to you upon receipt of that deposit. If you don't like it when it arrives, the transport truck driver will pay you back your money! Great, except you never hear from him again...!
