I was chatting with the creators of MMM the other day...

A couple weeks ago, I was talking with some of the authors of Mart's Monster Mod (MMM) about ways to further expand the diversity of the creatures found in their awesome mod. One thing that came up was the idea of using different models and textures for "male" and "female" creatures -- anything from a wolf to a Daedroth. Several of the creatures in the game are already separated - deer and sheep for example have two different models, and horses do too if you're using Slof's mods.

I wouldn't think the work would be terribly complicated. For example a "male" wolf could just be a bit larger/bulkier than the "female" version. Add to that the different colorations that MMM already gives creatures, and different possible ranges of stats (for example maybe higher overall strength, and lower overall speed, for the male) and suddenly you have a lot more diversity.

Though, several creatures probably shouldn't have this additional diversity applied: for example I don't think it would make sense for a Spriggan, or Spider Daedra, or an Atronach.

Is there anyone else out there with any interest at all in this?

Already been thinking of something along those lines, myself. :)

There's actually a mod that sorta does that... It's not as... Subtle as you'd mentioned, which is what I'd prefer, which is what I'd prefer and therefore why I don't use it, but it's out there. Just... Really.... In your face.

Here's the Nexus thread, has screenshots. *Warning: Nudity*

Whoops, guess I was lying 'bout the download link! Guess I should try before I post. I'll keep looking, the mod's called "Oblivion Sexualized Monsters" if you wanna try it find it yourselves.

Wow, that IS really in your face :). Not exactly what I had in mind either. While I'm a big fan of realism and so like mods such as Slof's Horses that have anatomically correct models, that shouldn't be the whole point of the mod! The mod you mention above almost looks cartoonish, it's so exaggerated.

As such I do think this work should be a lot more subtle, especially because it needs to appeal to most people who use MMM or FCOM - and that's a BIG list.

Slof - I'm glad to hear you're thinking about it! Given the work you've done on your Horses mods you'd be a great person for the job. I'd love to see you convert your Dogs mod to the same idea. And then there's all the Vanilla creatures to deal with, not to mention the new ones that MMM adds...wish I could help but believe me, it's best if I just stick to scripting.

Like... Some bad Japanese hentai cartoon. Like... A pornography magazine. Like... The old image share?

Yeah, I much prefer your idea, with like, size and whatnot, rather than actual anatomy. Looking forward to it, Slof!

Rebel is working on updating that mod, and chances are, he and I will work together on it. Like my horses, the other animals will be anatomically correct, but it will be reflected in size and shape as well. Their male parts will only be in your face if you really want to look for them! :D

I'm also planning a second dog pack with more recognisable breeds in both male and female correct anatomy.

That's fantastic Slof! If you two need an MMM beta tester, count me in. Like I said above, I like realism, so as long as the male/female specific anatomy isn't um..."overemphasized" or cartoonish then I think it's great.

The only thing I ask is that either (1) you don't apply multiple genders to creatures that (I at least would argue) shouldn't have it, such as Atronachs or Spriggans or Spider Daedra; or (2) give users the option on non-animals aka monsters.

I'd also love it if SI creatures (Grummites, skinned hounds, etc.) got the treatment but I know how big of a job this work has gotta be!

Edit: You and Rebel may want to get in contact with the creators of MMM; their initial feedback to me was that they would strongly consider adding this content to MMM if good meshes/textures for different genders were available.

I've already given Corepc blanket permissions to use any of my meshes/textures for MMM, not least because I use it myself. Wouldn't play without it.

Rebel's mod already gives spider daedra both genders and for me, it suits. It also gives the flame atronachs gender, as they definitely are gendered - they were male in Morrowind, and female in Oblivion. Whether or not they are an elemental creature, they seem to take on male and female features.

Any meshes I make will not be cartoonish. They'll be treated like I did mares and stallions for the horses. :)

Rebel plans to use Robert's male and female bodies for some of the humanoid creatures, so they should be different without being over the top. He usually creates alternate versions of the esp to suit.

Yeah, MMM is a GREAT addition to vanilla Oblivion. Wouldn't play without it.

Sounds great Slof. Like I said, I can't wait to see your and Rebel's work.

What creatures specifically are you planning to focus on? You've already mentioned your Dogs mod, and of course Rebel did some work earlier on several different creatures. Are you planning to cover vanilla Oblivion only, or will you also cover the additional creatures added by MMM (Balrog, gargoyle, werewolf, farm animals, etc.)? How about SI? Or, is it too early to say for sure? Just curious.
