I've played Oblivion for quite a while, but haven't touched it in the last seven months or so. I have about 100+ mods currently jacked up into my copy of oblivion, and about 1/3 of them conflicting with other mods. I want to begin a "new Oblivion," as in I want to erase all my current mods, and then re-download an all new set of mods (of course some will repeat). Third, here is what I want to ask you guys. If any of you have an Oblivion rigged with compatible mods, so that no big conflicts occur (i.e. no purple bodies, mis-shaped armor, etc.), I would love it if you could post your mod list here. Also, if there are any mods that you guys want to highly recommend, feel free to do so. Fourth, here are my likes and dislikes. I think just about every mod I currently have loaded is pretty awesome, and I'm able to run all of them with minimal impact on playability - certainly no major conflicts like the ones you were describing. The only mod I would take off right now is the "arena trainer" mod. The mod itself is actually really cool, but the voiced trainer who is supposed to spar with you has a condition that you're not allowed to use magic against him. For some reason some kind of conflict is making it so that he *always* thinks I've used some kind of magic, and he promptly cancels the match. Oh, right. The only reason not to get Qarl's Texure Pack 3 Redimized would be if your comp just can't handle it. FCOM is one of the more obvious choices. I hate Bob's Armory, but Armamentarium adds plenty of extra equipment appearances, is just as compatible, and looks a helluva lot better, so it makes for a good replacement. I use Realistic Leveling no matter what other mods I use. The Race Balancing Project (kind of hard to find at this point) and Supreme Magicka Updated are good supplemental balance mods since OOO mostly just balances weaponry. Though, OOO does make some changes to armor enchantment limits that Supreme Magicka does not override. The Quest Award Leveler is great because not even OOO removes the scaling from quests and their rewards. Or maybe it was just other parts of FCOM causing that... I doubt it, but I don't know for sure. Unique Landscapes is great for making Cyrodiil look more awesome. Similarly Better Cities makes the cities more awesome, but the market district can get very stuttery at certain parts... Lost Spires is a huge and awesome massive quest mod. The DarN UI is awesome and only conflicts with a few mods, and the mods it does conflict with have instructions on how to fix it with minimal trouble. The conflicts are also relatively minor to begin with. Well... unless you're trying to use two UI overhauls at the same time. Sadly OOO does offer uber gear, and the Heaven's Fury set seems to be easy enough to obtain through pure stealth. The others, however, make you earn them. OOO also leaves a free Glass Shield lying around in an easy to get to place once you know where it is. A level 1 character could get it right after leaving the tutorial dungeon while avoiding any combat.Better Cities' Arboretum or whatever that part of the IC is called also has plenty of tame deer that no one will get mad at you for killing, tons of alchemy ingredients (some of which is normally quite rare), and has a free "inn" room, free gemstones, and free alchemy ingredients (again, some of them normally quite rare).Unique Landscapes can have a lot more alchemy ingredients available than normal in places, and the sewer exits have a ton of beer for some reason, but none of them seem exceedingly rare or overpowered, and most of them are populated logically. I've kept expecting to run into horrible exploits with these mods but have yet to actually find any other than more and bigger farms to raid the crops from. Of course after getting annoyed with OOO/FCOM, I got an overhaul mod that is FAR less complicated to install, has less compatibility issues, and makes some of those mods moot.TIE is harder than OOO, removes all scaling from normal Oblivion (no/lessened need to use the Quest Award Leveler), and makes resource management like repairs and lockpicks actually matter. It also does not provide freebies or any end-game ubers like OOO does. Sadly its changes to the maximum Encumbrance calculation and power/weight/durability equipment ratios could potentially mean that any added equipment runs the risk of being too durable or otherwise too good in comparison to the core equipment. If you know how to edit mods (I don't), then it is probably fairly simple to copy the stats over from TIE onto Armamentarium for a quick and easy compatibility/balance fix there, but trying to add in other equipment mods might be harder.The good news is the Tamriel Immersive Experience website claims a Shivering Isles TIE is in the works so that the Shivering Isles becomes a dynamic world without scaling and the items from it will fit TIE standards. As it is, I don't believe any other scaling reducing overhaul has ever brought Shivering Isles in line as well.The bad news is that it does nothing to alter the Oblivion magic and enchantment system, so there's still no reason to ever use a Shield enchantment when the Elemental Shield enchantments are about as high or higher. You might want to get a magic overhaul mod along with it, but... Supreme Magicka's boost to the armor Feather enchantment is a bit too good after considering that strength provides less encumbrance in TIE... They're all monsters, but if you can read an instruction manual, you'll do fine. Natural Environments will vastly improve lighting quality, add changing seasons, and add insects and birds with no framrate hit. Deadly Reflex will add vastly improved combat animation, hugely increased realism, and greatly improve the general combat system with new features like fighting with your feet, and critical hits with melee power attacks, spells, and arrows(arrows only crit on heart-shots though, so only dead-eyes will se those often) Better Cities Full is a vast mod that hugely adds onto the towns and cities, adding new people, places, outfits, and a huge boost to realism onto all the game's cities. I will however say that if you want revealing clothing, you'll be happy. But if you want it artisticaly done, you'll probably have to get it done by request. The vast majority of female armour mods are very revealing, and anytthing but a realistic-and usualy really crass too. Usualy just a parade of bikinis made out of chainmail. Sure, exception to that rule exist, but they're exceptions, not a rule. Otherwise I would greatly recomend OOO, and Midas Magic. A good place to start with extra races would be Sulpyun's MoonShadow Elves, if nothing else than because that's the best laid out mod I've ever seen. Finaly, you'll want Facial Textures By Enayla and IFT 21 by Shady Tradesman. Simply out of principle, these will vastly increase facial detail to full HD without draining frames. SilvasRuin Posted August 15, 2010 Share Posted August 15, 2010 Midas Magic is great, but Midas Chest gives you a version of what is basically hammerspace, and the ingredients are such that all you have to do is pop into one of the homes in the Temple District and you can steal the only remaining ingredient for the spell that you don't have coming out of the tutorial. Not having to even leave a dungeon to access your storage has a profound effect on game balance... And then later on, after you can locate/steal/gather the ingredients, you can also make spells that allow flight, summon steeds, and other things that really can't be good for game balance. albonaut Posted August 15, 2010 Share Posted August 15, 2010 Unique Landscapes for the biggest and most notable "new oblivion" feel, imo. Also DarkUId Darn, and one of the many different coloring packs to go with it, from red to black to green to even wood. Akatosh mount is great if you really like mounts, and there are plenty of great retexes out there. If your computer can't hand Qarl's Texture Pack 3, you might want to look into some other texture packs that are out there. There's also a couple of mods that change the whole feel of Oblivion. One makes it look like everything is hand drawn, I can't remember the name of it right now, and another makes it look like an older european fantasy movie type style, which is kinda neat. Fearsome Magicka is a great magic mod with awesome effects and spells and everything, and it works on it's own seperate little magic system, so you don't have to worry about it interfering with other magic mods, such as midas magic. Oh, and ofcourse, open cities. Makes all the cities (with the exception of the IC) open, so no more "teleporting" to a new map when you enter a city, instead you just walk right in. If you have a high end comp, then you should spring for better open cities instead, same thing except it merges better cities which Vindekarr mentioned with open cities. And Elsweyr, Deserts of Anequina, quite possibly the best new landmass mod ever. Definitely worth looking into no matter what. Apart from that, it depends what kind of character you make. Personally I use Deadly Reflex (Combat), Supreme Magicka, LAME, as well as Midas Magic (Magicka). So far I have yet to find a "Stealth" overhaul. Not a fan of any of the lockpick or stealth mods I've currently found. Zero conflict whatsoever. Some "Utility" mods I must have... Quest Award Leveler (How dumb is it that you have to "wait" to do a quest just because you want a better reward), Toggleable Quantity Prompt (So you can sell entire stacks with one click, no stupid "confirmation" menues), RefScope (amazing if you use overhauls like FCOM and wonder what mod a certain piece of equipment comes from. Totally disregard the sr_super_hotkeys.esp. It's janky as hell. Quit on me after starting a new game. I've yet to find a hotkey mod I like enough to keep. Demon Race is pretty cool, but could be considered a cheat. If you use OBSE, then you have the ability to fly. Well, you have the ability to 'tcl' with animated wings. Alternative Start - Simply use it to skip the annoying tutorial dungeon. I start too many new characters too often to go through that garbage every time. Map Marker Overhaul - place and name map markers. Useful for marking a dungeon on the world map that you have yet to finish exploring, or have bosses yet to have been killed. All In One Basement - To be honest I was skeptical about this mod, but after trying it out, it's about the best "house" mod I've yet to play. Basically adds a single basement to every official buyable house. Single as in the same one, linked. Enter your house in Bruma, exit your house in IC. Semi-Lore Friendly, too. "Turn the lever to activate the enchanted wood" (As lore friendly as a fast travel anyway). That's about the breakdown of my mod list. Hope it gives you some ideas. It seemed that yeahchris's load order seemed to encompass most of your ideas, so I just went ahead and copied it as best as I could. Problem is, now Oblivion crashes each and every time I try to load it up. It runs okay if I deactivate all my mods, and I first thought that Side's Sailing Ships was causing the problem (I activated it by itself, game crashed). But even with it deactivated, the game is still crashing. Can anyone help me out? I used OBSE, BOSS, and OBMM. What's up?
