Trueblue1878
Thanks guys :) A few hours after I posted yesterday I went and loaded up a save game before I equiped the armor in the fresh un-modded retail oblivion and then made a proper savegame from the menu. So I had a completely mod free savegame now.. I then went and loaded up the steam version and loaded the unmodded savegame I had made.. got all the quest alerts about new spells, new companions etc and then I went and got the armor, equiped it, went to the ruins where you kill Umaril and held my breath.. saved the game and there was no crash... So I went back to a savegame where all the mods WERE previously active and I completed the quest with the armor on and many saves along the way. I even loaded up OC again and left Benaris Mansion in Anvil and the autosave DIDN'T crash me.. Can you believe that??? Just creating a un-modded savegame from Oblivion retail and loading it in Steam has fixed my other save games.... How the hell?? Could it have been some corrupt cache or something that was doing it..? I seriously don't understand this lol. But it seems to be working now with all mods activated AND with savegames that weren't working before I loaded the fresh one. So just loading the fresh, then loading the old fixed the whole problem. Does that make sense? Very strange IMO, but if it starts doing it again I will try what you suggested with CS. Many thanks! P.S. I already left kudos! EDIT: Its started to crash on save without armor now.. sigh thinkin of giving up now tbh ive spent 3 days trying to fix this :(Update: It seems if I start Oblivion, load a game and it crashes on the first save I try to make. However, If I load the un-modded save I made and then load my most recent save.. the game runs flawlessly until I exit Oblivion. What does that mean? It looks like disabling all those mods yesterday has messed it up even more than it was before.. but why would loading a unmodded save then going back to a modded save prevent it crashing?? DavidBudreck
Being unable to exit Oblivion without a CTD is a common issue. I have not been able to quit without crashing for months (or is it years now). Check out this mod: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21416 It requires OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender) but lots of other things need it as well, and is well worth the effort. Trueblue1878
I already have that mod to quit without crash but I meant, I can't save game without a crash! Unless I load a savegame that was "made without any mods loaded" first then load back to a real savegame with all the mods.. only then can I save the game. Otherwise I try to save and it crashes.Loading the un-modded savehame I made yesterday with my fresh install first and then loading back to a proper savegame fixes the crash problem but then AFTER I have quit and then later on I run Oblivion again.. its back to crashing on save again UNLESS I load the un-modded save FIRST then load the recent ones. Can you explain why its doing that? How could loading the unmodded save then bouncing back to the modded save fix crashing? (only until youquit the game that is and then you have to repeat the process) CHeers Being unable to exit Oblivion without a CTD is a common issue. DavidBudreck
Obviously something doesn't like something else. There is, unfortunately, no real formula for finding the magic combination. However, "Maybe" there is one other thing you can try. OBMM has a mod conflict detector. It probably won't detect the conflict as such, BUT, if you load KOTN last, then ask OBMM to check for conflicts, it should give you a listing of everything that touches the scripts for Crusader armor. This will at least give you something to go on. Try disabling the mods that touch anything having to do with KOTN--especially if they shouldn't have anything to do with it. I can' remember whether you said you had OBMM, so here is the link anyway: OBMM - Oblivion Mod Managerhttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097
Trueblue1878
Cheers David, the problem is.. in fixing the armor crashing problem ive made oblivion crash ALWAYS now regardless of wearing the armor or not. So im totally not sure what is causing it this time.. there doesn't seem to be any pattern I can go by.When I disabled all the addons and re-enabled them I must have messed one of them up.. I will try disabling them again lol this is really beginning to wind me up :( I haven't played the game for almost a week now with all the crashes. I appreciate all your advice though mate! Oh and I have OBMM, had it since I started playing in 2006 or 07. But I recently also got BAIN, WRYE BASH hoping it would help me solve this problem ! Obviously something doesn't like something else.
