Kagemitsu
Well, first off, hi all. New forum user here. I've been using the Nexus since forever, being the awesome source of mods that it is.I'm an avid Oblivion player and I love modding it, just like pretty much everyone. Sadly, I can't avoid getting headaches each time I try playing with some mods because such mods end up screwing the game some way or another. This time I tried to give the famous OOO a go, along with MMM, Stealth Overhaul (I love playing stealthy characters), Oblivion XP and the Unofficial patches. The game has been a complete hell so far: besides the fact that I can't kill a bandit for the life of me, and even a well placed sneak attack deals merely 1/20 of anything's total life, the mods create a plethora of bugs like hell. I can't complete some of the main quests, sometimes quest characters get stuck on a rock, sometimes the mob I need to kill spawns god knows where and I'm in "combat" for the next 20 mins and can't fast travel... Oblivion is an incredibly glitchy game, and mods sometimes make it really, really worse. This happens every time I try and use some of the mods with the most impact on the game and I'm kinda surprised that I seem to be the only one with these kind of problems. And yes, I read all the damn readmes and I install everything correctly. How's your experience with modding? Ever had such a bad gaming experience that you just wanted to uninstall and start anew? David Brasher
If a mod causes me problems, I deal very harshly with it. I usually end up removing it and not reinstalling it again. So my mod list tends to only have about 60 mods on it at a time. I guess I avoid mods that change lots of things at once too. I am not really into overhauls and replacers. I mostly use dungeons and quest mods. Those are more limited in scope and cannot usually cause so many huge problems.
Dyshein
I also tend to avoid mods that change alot at one time. But at least in oblivion it's easier to uninstall, I remember having to click through error messages for literally 2 hours in morrowind once because I uninstalled some gigantic glitchy mod and wanted to load up one of my saves made while it was installed. Just because mods are popular doesn't mean they are devoid of glitches >.<.
albonaut
Haha, don't worry Kagemitsu, you're not alone. I don't even have Oblivion installed right now. Ugh, what a headache. I messed up something or other, and Oblivion wouldn't even make it to the Betheseda Logo. Tried loading it without OBSE, no luck. Try uninstalling the mods I just installed. Nothing. I used Bben's incredible guide of how to revert to vanilla Oblivion without losing all your files, and guess what, still nothing. Whatever I did, it is royally done in. So I've been spending whatever free time I've had the past few days rounding up all my mod that I use, trying to find them in omod format, and it has been such a headache. Then I have to get it all reinstalled, what fun. Well, whatever. Just so you know that you're not alone. Also, be sure to backup. I used to backup all the time, then I stopped. As soon as I stopped, look what happened. Curse you Murphy's Law!!! Oh well, hang in there and keep modding. There can never be too many modders! :)
Deleted1848331User
There is never an end to headaches in mod making. Wait, are you referring to installing mods or making them? Ah, Idc anyways. But, whenever your making a mod, it will always give you headaches because of all the scripting and such. It can be a pain in the @$$, but its fun playing it! Keep on modding!LordFrostcraig (you can tell I'm bored by coloring it.... lol.)
Kagemitsu
Thanks guys, knowing that I'm not alone is somewhat comforting lol.Sadly I don't have the knowledge to do any modding myself, so yeah, I was referring to installing and using them. And I guess I learned my lesson: changing the game completely makes no sense if it becomes an unpleasant experience, no matter how sexy some mods can look. I'm gonna try OOOing for a bit, and if it keeps being so stubborn I'm just gonna make a clean install and add exclusively adult mods to my game. That would definitely make it a pleasant experience. :P
documn
I get headaches too. Just yesterday I installed a mod and now when I load a game, all I see is blue, with the HUD elements on top. What's even more discouraging is that this is a mod that I've used in the past and I liked it a lot. Oh well, time to break my game even more to try and figure out how to fix it. ub3rman123
Blue? Turn off HDR lighting. Yeah, some mods are pretty complex to install. I love the ones that are very simple, just a .esp and meshes/textures, that manage to do amazing things, like Elswyr, Midas Magic, and the Lost Spires, so I try to make my mods in the same design. I've tried to install Deadly Reflex about 5 times so far, and still can't figure it out.
Bingo Bango
Deadly Reflex looks interesting, yeah ... I never got round to trying it out, though, 'cause every time I look at I think 'oooooo, sounds cool!', then I read the description and see it has backflips, and get put off. Oh, also, I'm a semi-professional writer and a sometimes-professional voice actor. I'm looking to team up with an Oblivion modder to make something great - possibly a bunch of quests and/or a companion mod, fully (and professionally!) voiced. But I'll need help.If you're interested, PM me!
