evilneko
Burnagirl, is that seriously your view of the left? If it is, I don't know what sort of media you watch for your political news, or even if you watch any, but whatever it is has made your view of the left so heavily tainted, you think them all tree-hugging, baby-eating hippies who'd sooner save a dog's life than a person's. It ain't so. Maybe it's because you don't live here. You just don't see how the right has completely abandoned anyone who isn't a white, christian male and completely forgotten that the old "Big Tent" party strategy (how's that for freedom loving?). Maybe you don't see how the right, over the past decade, has eroded American civil liberties, and keeps trying to even today. Hell I sure didn't, I was dumb enough to vote for Bush. Twice. What can I say, I was young, and politically inept. I hadn't really taken a close enough look at the issues, at what really mattered. And over the past few years I have, and I have found too many of the right's actual positions indefensible. Sure, smaller government and fiscal responsibility sound good and are quite agreeable, but when I took into account what the Republicans were actually doing... I found I just couldn't support them. But you know what? While smaller government and fiscal responsibility might be good things, so is Social Security, so are unemployment benefits, and so are the consumer protections enacted in the health care reform bill. Should these things be paid for? Of course! Are the worth it? For sure! After all, I plan on being old one day, and I might be unemployed for some time as well, so I'd like to have these things around. I, for one, am glad for health care reform. I have a history of seizures. I even had brain surgery to correct the problem that was causing them. An insurance company, however, would still call it a pre-existing condition, despite the surgery I underwent to correct it! Thousands upon thousands of others are in a similar situation. Soon, they'll have a much better chance of getting affordable coverage. I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool liberal who'd vote for a monkey if it ran as a Democrat, either. That's for my dad (he's actually said that, too. Though, he said he wouldn't vote for Palin or McCain, if they suddenly switched parties ;D ). Doctors forced to perform abortions - WTF? Just what kind of dictatorship do you think the United States is? Abortionists are specialists, they go into it by choice. And even among them, they have every right to refuse to perform the service, for any reason that doesn't infringe on a protected class. Just to use current events as an example, remind me again, which side of the political spectrum the opposition to the Park 51 center falls on? Oh, and, and if the conservatives here would stop using "liberal" as if it were a bad word, that'd be great. It only makes you sound like Glenn Beck. That is not something you want to imitate. first: placing a large tax on goods from China (and a few other countries) would force such things to be made HERE. Creating a lot of jobs and likely bankrupting China when they cannot get the money we owe them. Also, how would unemployment rise? They would be back on base, not out of the military, and many would go get a job, it would cut a good 10% out of government spending. No offense, monky, you're a fine roleplayer, but take a couple of economics courses, and then get back to us on this. And for the third, citation needed. And counterpoint: see above about Park 51. monkybuttface
Ok, I admit that a straight tax would be a problem, It would have to be a lot more complex with a system of benefits for companies that move their factories to the U.S, and perhaps some things for which their are no real American corporations that produce there would be exceptions, it would have course require a lot more work than just "tax it". I admit. Park51 seems to be something i honestly don't care much about, I am not Muslim, and do not live anywhere near Manhattan, I do however like the idea, I do wonder where they are putting it? If it is anywhere near the site of the Twin Towers, then it will not last long, because angry people will tear it down. Finally, I have no citations for that, as it was on word-of-ear alone, and I have no way of proving whether it is true. I admit it was a mistake to place something unprovable in my post, and it hurts my credibility, A LOT. P.S. I have no confidence in my role-playing ability, I just get bored sometimes. I learned in a chat room on a free internet game called Dead Frontier.
species5478
There are some good points being made. The false identification of "liberal" and "socialist" seem to be prevalent themes nowadays. America is not becoming socialized. The recent financial meltdown proves that Capitalism reigns supreme. In the case of China, I'm not sure why there's a perception they'll simple roll over if the United States can't, or won't pay it's dept. The Chinese have established the oldest surviving government on the planet: equipped with nuclear arms, and one of the largest military forces on the planet. It's doubtful they'll simply toss up their hands and forget the Billions that we owe. Chances are, there would be war. Hopefully this will not happen, but history has shown us that wars have been fought over a LOT less...
Balagor
@BurnaG Have you been smoking too much African nettle lately? But what's really twisted though is the ability to kill babies, murder them through abortion all in the name of "freedom" yet kick and scream when a guy runs across the ice and smashes a baby seals head in ... that's liberalism ... it's twisting Freedom to choose for others to live or die. Period. I'm tired of bunny-huggers who want to "save" the world, the whales and the three-eyed dogs of the universe called jigsaw, who prance naked through the woods and hold hands with their spirit guides when all they really do is cost the tax-payer more money. Ha ha ha, that was me in my hippie days. You forgot the mantras. We also sang our mantras while in the woods. We did´nt try to save the world, but just had a chance to see eachother naked, LOL. and the whales are endangered, compared to humans, unless you mean that socialism will have "Staate Controlle" abortion on humans, so we will be endangered too. Liberals cost the man in the street money ... I mean what's the deal with now making a third restroom (toilet or bathroom) available in America just in case a transexual comes to the restaurant ... what cr*p !!! Why not go all the way, and have only one kind of toilet "one size fits all" No more Ladies & Gents. Think of the investments restaurants could save. MacDonalds would save huge amounts. They might even consider paying tax in Europe and other foreing continents. What about forcing doctors to give abortions when they dont want to ? ... which is all just a big money making business anyway.Yeah, it's freedom, our style, liberal style. Well, thats a must for doctors in DK, according to their "Doctors Oath". As a doctor you can not deny an abortion. We are perhaps talking about saving a womans live. I've been as left as anyone ... hugged the bunnies, kissed the toads, ravished the maidens (say no more), milked the cows, screamed for liberation for the oppressed ignoring jail and beatings, befriended the outcasts, did weird sh*t in the woodsprayed to idols, demons and the devil himself, joined cults the whole trip ... blah blah blah ... did I leave any liberal thing off my list ... oh, yes, smoked more dope than you've had hot breakfasts and clasped hands with the commie, marxist, and every other "ist".but it was empty ... no value for my money. Did you try full hearted? Ok, jump me now ... naughty little conservative that I am ... how dare I ...Liberalism is always about conformity and never about freedom, it's about getting away with stuff at other peoples expense ... look if you're going to take a stand (like I'm doing), go for it whole hog, get branded whatever, it's ok, but dont be a wimp. That´s why I still believe that America never will become socialists, but remain good Liberals.
ginnyfizz
And here we have it again, assumptions that we Conservatives either don't/can't read or don't watch any kind of media, or that we have been taking mind altering substances. Amazing revelation here...we ACTUALLY do! I don't know about Burnagirl, over there in ZA, but I certainly don't get Fox News in the UK. Here we have the dubious pleasure of the notoriously left wing BBC. And personally I take prescription drugs only (no they are NOT free, I have to pay for my NHS prescriptions)...Yes, we have minds and can think for ourselves! Some of us have come to our conclusions and concerns about Socialism through bitter experience. Remember, many of the people I work with are young men and women who have come through an education system that has been trashed by Socialist theory that everyone is educationally equal (the teaching profession in the UK is also very left leaning)and should not be separated into groups designated by ability. Result? Not only do bright kids from poor backgrounds suffer from bullying, but very often those with special needs do not get picked up. Far too many of my customers are illiterate because the education system never noticed.
species5478
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3D1OWPN2MM My state is 42 out of 50 when it comes to job growth. The main reason is because individuals like Jan Brewer have helped destroy our local economy by wasting money on worthless projects, and paying people within their inner circles ungodly wages. After the clip, support for Brewer went from 19%, and JUMPED to 22% AFTER her idiotic gaff. (one of MANY) Why? How can somebody display such a massive amount of ignorance, and gain support? Because people here love the fact that she drafted the new controversial law SB 1070, which attempts to tramples on illegal immigrants by violating their human rights. But no one seems to care, that even before she was governor, Brewer spearheaded the spending frenzy that mismanaged our budget and placed Arizona into one of the worst economic states in the nation. She even lied, by asserting the budget has been balanced, which is has not. Yet nobody seems to care. We're still in the red and her only solution was to cut the wages of all state employees, (except for those who work in the governor's office), and to cut programs for children, old people, and the poor. My problem with conservatives like her, is that when times get hard, they pillage from the people who can least afford it, and have no way of defending themselves. It seems that no matter what these types of conservatives do, say, or fail do deliver, people continue to support them. It's insane to believe so slavishly in a person or in a party with such blinding obedience that you're willing to support them even they fail to deliver on their elected policies. (Brewer was not elected into office, either) This applies to ANY PARTY, mind you. And if you're one of the individuals who feel that you will not, under any circumstances, alter your perception, then you might as well be in chains. This is why I became an Independent, and believe an advanced form of socialism is a good alternative to our current woes.

evilneko
LOL, Jan Brewer. Yeah. And the press conference afterward was even worse! After the clip, support for Brewer went from 19%, and JUMPED to 22% AFTER her idiotic gaff. Wat? Um. http://webbstuff.net/images/doublefacepalm.jpg Yeah. I guess the one good thing to take from that is that it's still in the low twenties.

Her already massive lead grew...it's like she can do no wrong. I think that calls for a Triple Face Palm.
evilneko
I think that calls for a Triple Face Palm. I think that actually calls for a full-on faceFAULT, but... as I was required to say in a previous job: "I can help you with that." http://webbstuff.net/images/triplefacepalm.jpg
