tombo89
So the other day i screwed up badly when installing a few mods and my game got totally messed up. so i went ahead and just wiped clean my PC of Oblivion and all the mods. I went ahead and did a new clean install with just Oblivion and nothing else, no mods and no DLC(knights of the nine etc). now when i go to play the game it crashes. More specifically it crashes when the music starts to play just before the Bethesda logo appears. the music skips and i get the "oblivion has encountered a problem" error message. Ive had this games since it came out and this has never happened before, so I have no idea whats going on. would really like some help because i want to play this game again
Hickory
Do you have an oblivion.ini file in \Documents\My Games\Oblivion\ ?

Shadowfen
Same Probelm here Search for a oblivion.ini file in or under your My Documents directory. If you find one, delete it. It will be automatically recreated by oblivion the next time you run it - and it might like the new contents better.
bben46
Using the built in uninstaller dosn't really remove the entire game. It leaves behind quite a bit, including anything in your data folder that the original install did not put in - such as mods, All of your save games - including any that are corupt, The Oblivion.ini, and worst of all, several stray entries in the windows registry. Any of these can come back to haunt you when you reinstall. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.
