Armageddon: Before the Rift

As she landed, she was startled by a man nearby who woke suddenly at her arrival. Apparently, he was just as startled as she.

"Wooahahoaah! There missie 'tain't polite to be sneakin' up on folks like that! Say were'd ye come from there missie?"

She blinked her large purple eyes, looking at the groggy sailor. "Oh, um.. I didn't mean to intrude.. I just thought--"

Before she knew it, her presence had drawn a crowd. She looked about, a bit bewildered. She knew deep down she should have expected such. The people of the valley were used to her kind, and especially to her, but these people clearly had never seen an avariel before. Even in her own world, her kind were rare and would attract attention away from home. Curiously enough, some people, she noticed, paid her no mind at all. Strange place, this island.

Nevertheless, the crowding was starting to get to her. She took a step back, casting about for an escape. It was then that she spotted the man making his way towards her, roughly pushing people aside. Her wings twitched as the oddly-dressed man stared at her.

"Ah.. erm.. excuse me," she stammered nervously.

Before the man could respond, another man, larger and wearing a gaudy feathered hat, came forth and grabbed the first. Hateful words were exchanged, and then the inevitable punches started flying. Soyokaze decided she'd had enough. She glared at the men, drew her wings upward, and shouted, the wind welling up to amplify her voice to a startling volume.

"Enough!"

Before the fight had started Nynlata had been resting in the captains quarters of her Acquired ship. The ship she had stolen before finding herself in the unusual harbor had been owned by none other than the Countess of Anvil, Millona Umbranox herself. As such the ship itself was a marvel of its time. Every door was engraved with gold filigree, each room had been well crafted. The ship would have fetched a hefty price on the market, another reason why Nynlata had chosen it.

The captains cabin would have been a spectacle in and of itself, if most of the room hadn't been ripped to shreds by one of her fits.

Nynlata's eyes snapped open as the sounds of the commotion outside reached her ears. Nynlata let out a groan before getting to her feet and stumbling outside to watch the fight. Her intense green eyes locked onto an elven looking being. Nynlata tilted her head to the side as the being clearly got agitated and shouted out. Her attention wasn't held by this for long as another scent reached her nose.... Blood. Somewhere along the line one of the two fighters had received a slight cut, just enough to let the red liquid see the light of day.

Nynlata fought back the strong urge to join the fight, the urge to allow more blood be spilt. Nynlata could feel parts of her visage attempt to creep into another form, a form that would soon be followed by bloodshead. Nynlata shook her head and took a step towards the gangplank, leaving the Visalis behind her.

Nynlata swallowed hard for a moment, throwing the urge back into the depths of her mind. Slowly, Nynlata reached the scene of the fight, she weaved her way through the crowd, every now and then sniffing at the air, picking out the scents of those around her, paying even more attention to those she hadn't smelt before.

Nynlata had arrived at the docks what seemed to be a few weeks before and since then had only left her ship a few times to scout the area at night, acquire food as well as other items of interest. So far the others in the area that seemed to resemble her home hadn't paid her much interest, and she hadn’t had the need to use her other form as of yet, and luckily she was able to keep the bloodlust at bay... at least out of the eyes of the public.

Nynlata stopped just a few feet away from the brutish sailor, the spot she had chosen enabled her to see all three of the participants clearly, whilst keeping herself out of the immediate sight of the others.

Despite the elf's protests the massive sailor continued with a mighty uppercut twice as fast as his earlier right hook. He snarled with menace, he was going to teach this runt a lesson. "You little poo. The Mad Dog only moors here once every 75 years and i won't be within striking distance of her for another 300! You cost me the Aether charts you little whelp!" He wouldn't kill him, that'd land him in jail for sure despite all the guards he'd bribed to overlook him.

The guards were in fact still watching, some enjoying the rare fight, as long as the kid didn't get in a critical condition they didn't need to stop it. Isla Chrunus was ruled largely by a social code of conduct, you attack someone without reason then expect to have them fight back and the guards to be on you. Otherwise if you commit a crime against someone it's fully within their right to pummel the living daylights out of you so long as they don't kill you. The justice system left a lot to be desired here but suprisingly little major crime occured.

The big burly sailor noticed Sifo's skin grow paler and smirked. "So ye can make yeself cold too eh?" He drew his cutlass now, "Try to freeze this boy!" He swung with the flat of his blade for a resounding smack intending to leave a sizeable welt that would last for weeks on Sifo. It wasn't what he wanted but it was all he could get away with. Pirates can't get in too much trouble in the only friendly port to them.

The pirate brought back his cutlass to diliver a mighty swat to Sifo when he caught the ice out of the corner of his eye. He brought his left hand around behind himself and sent a fireball at the ice, melting and evaporating it he then turned the blade around in his hand, "Treacherous little dog!" He swung the blade with such power and force it would surely kill the young man-

BOOOM!!! suddenly the giant dropped his cutlass and bent over double coughing blood all over the ground. He slumped and fell face down in the dirt at Sifo's feet.

"Would y'all just shut up and go about yer bus'ness? Good God the din's loud enough to raise the dead. Shove off all o' ye!" A lean, tall man with flowing brown hair that possessed a tint of red to it hollarred, annoyed. He was in a red doublet with black pants and fine leather boots, he had the rough weathered look of a seaman to him at his side was a sword of Daedric make, the blade was curved but twoards the base it forked, they were close together but the outer blade had long wicked spike-like serations to it it had a slight red aura around it but the metal itself looked like steel save for the handle it was obvious it was a very personalized weapon. The entire crowd fell silent at the sound of the gun shot, the gilded flint-lock pistol's mahogany handle still in the man's hand.

people turned away and went about their business as whipsers dispersed through them, "Is it?", "Yeah, I can't believe it." "I thought that big burly fellow was just full of Bull" "So where's the ship?" all these went through the island as his appearance sent shockwaves through the populace.

"You. Boy. Come here." He said motioning towards Sifo, "And bring your little elven friend with ye too."

The fight continued, despite her protest. She should have expected that. She was a stranger here, these people did not know her, and likely didn't even know Faenya, either. The air suddenly felt a bit chill, and her gaze focused on the smaller man. She had noticed before when he generated heat. Now he suddenly sapped that heat away. The man clearly had some sort of elemental power, though it must be very different from her own. The other man seemed to have some sort of immunity to heat and fire. Neither had yet demonstrated any ability which would make them immune to a strong enough burst of wind, and with their attention on each other, even if they did have such an ability, they likely wouldn't be able to use it in time. She could stop the fight.

For all she knew however, one of these men might be an official of some sort. She decided, as much as she abhorred senseless violence, that she should stop trying to interfere, at least for now. She resolved that she would only intervene if one of the combatants gained a clear upper hand.

Soyokaze was glad that for once, she had with her all of her weapons. Clearly, this was a dangerous place.

The ice did not go unnoticed to her, she could feel its effects on the air. She watched it a moment, and then suddenly the giant man vaporized it with a fireball deftly flung behind him. He raised his sword to strike at the smaller man, and then....

Soyokaze shielded herself with her wings at the sudden explosion. When she unwrapped herself, the giant was doubled over in pain. There was a man holding up a strange device she'd never seen before, but from the looks of things, was where the boom had originated.

"....And bring your little elven friend with ye too," she caught part of what he said. He recognized her as elven, at least, perhaps he could provide her with valuable information. She made her own way to him, stepping over the collapsed giant.

"H-hello.." She said.

"Because you ungrateful blaggart I ain't here to hurt ye I wanna talk with ye." He said agitatedly. He noticed him holding the sniper rifle. "Lotta good that'll do ye here. Go ahead, try and shoot me. Comon!" He hollared tauntingly with a giant grin on his seaworn face. These foreigners always so presumptious. Their ignorance is really entertainin' though I must say. The seaman thought. He loved his flint-lock even if he could probably get a hold of some new-fangled weapon from Earth the next time an isle phased in there. Anything was deadly on Chrunus, assuming you knew how to use it, fortunately for him very few people knew how to use it on Chrunus, or anywhere in Armageddon for that matter.
