EyeOfArgonia
I have decided to try my hand at modding, so I downloaded The Elder Scrolls Construction Set v1.2. I was looking forward to creating my own races, so I read a little on how do that. But, the problem came when I wanted to duplicate one of the current races to make my own, but the only race that appears on the list is Vampire Race. Of course, I am not experienced at modding, so it would be difficult for me to start a race from scratch. I ask for someone experienced in modding races to assist me. There is a special surprise in store for those who step up to lend a hand.
DavidBudreck
What do you mean by "Appears on the list?" Which list? Races appear under the "Character" menu. This pops up a dialog box with a list of races available in the game. Right Click on the one you want to use as a base and "Duplicate". Give your race a unique ID and make sure the checkbox "Playable" is selected. Do a Save As... to your new mod.
LFact
Load Oblivion.esm first. Then you can proceed.
EyeOfArgonia
I'm sorry. I should have been more specific about the "list." What I'm talking about is when I open "Character" from the toolbar, and select "Race." A list that appears there is supposed to have the name of each race in the game, Argonian, Breton, etc. But, it only lists Vampire Race. Please let me know if I'm still not very specific. DavidBudreck
I think LFact has it right. When you first open the CS, you don't actually have anything "Open." Select "Data..." from the File Menu, or click on the Folder Icon. Double Click on Oblivion.esm (To select mods when opening in the CS you Double-Click them). Or, you can "Set As Active" when the mod is highlighted. You can't set Oblivion.esm as Active, even if you tell it to, so don't worry about messing up the default game. When editing your mod, you will always want to set it as the "Active" mod. Being able to open multiple mods, with only one being "Active" at any given time is a VERY nifty feature. EyeOfArgonia
Many thanks! I'll be back tomorrow to discuss that "special surprise."
EyeOfArgonia
My intentions were to create a race and name it after whoever chose to help me. I don't know how that will work out, or if anyone who read this will even come back to read it again. Anyway, its not like I'm forcing you to do it. I just thought it'd make a good motivation. Thanks anyway! I really do appreciate it!
DavidBudreck
Thank you. I appreciate the thought, but a Race called "Dave B's Custom Race" really doesn't have much of a ring to it.
