2.2GB Video RAM

Allright, i have noticed that my 512 MB 4850 is using 2.2GBs of my system memory. and it really annoys me, and i think i could get a little more perfrormance out of Oblivion is i either disable or lower this. 2.2GBs is just WAY too much out of my 4GBs. I want to throw up a DxDiag so you guys could see for yourselves, not sure how to though put it on this forum. Also, my pagefile is 1869MBs used of 2651 Available...This is really annoying me, and i think my OSs isnt managing my system memory properly, and i want to change it.

EDIT: Nvm about the DxDiag i think i got it posted in the thread.

Is this a stock video card? Does it have it's own memory? Sorry if that's a dumb question, but I'm not familiar with those cards.

You should get a better video card that doesn't use system memory.

Can anyone help me? My 512 MB 4850 is sharing 2.2GBs of my system memory. I want to free that up.

Unfortunately my BIOS cant be very extensively accessed. I cant change the amount of memory, and far as i know. Its too simple, my BIOS.

Check your pagefile usage, you may have a few unnecessary programs running in the background try downloading IObit's game booster v1.51. It will close unnecessary background processes.

Your dedicated display memory seems a bit low. If you are running on a single video card it should still be in the low 1000's

Also you should update your video driver. I run the same series cards (2x 4870's)on my computer and my drivers are 2 updates higher than yours.

Windows Vista (and Win7) virtualizes video memory. Although the memory is available to 3D applications, it is still free for use by the system. That is to say, although it is mapped it is not consumed unless a running application requires it. It's a benefit really, as with only 512MB of actual video memory you are able to exceed that limit if you wish.

Check your system memory usage in task manager or some other utility. You'll see that the additional amount allocated to DX applications is still reported as available. Also keep in mind that under Vista/7 the reported available memory does not account for pages of memory which are already pagefile backed (swapped out) but remain on standby for fast access. If reqired, this memory is quickly made available at no performance cost.
