ItsOnlyPersonal
So, what I'm asking is, once hardcore mode is enabled, manual saving is disabled (autosave still works when sleeping, waiting, exiting/entering locations etc.) and if the player dies the autosave gets deleted. Would certainly make the game *a lot* more challenging but I'm not sure how hard it would be to do. Any takers? flamenx01
I think it would be technically possible to disable saving. The problem is that the auto saves get bloated and corrupted very quickly so your always better of manually saving in multiple slots. Couldn't when you die you just delete the save yourself without needing a mod to do it for you?

I've set the death screen to be some absurdly long amount of time forcing me to go back and load a manual save in the RPer's Alternative Start shack. It would just be nice to have the process automated by having manual saving be disabled and autosaves getting deleted upon death, I've never had issues with the autosaves so I have little concern over whether or not they'll go bad on me. devinpatterson
I don't believe it's really feasible to only disable manual saves without additional fallout/consequences. The way it's normally done, is to hook the menumode. For example if you don't want the player to be able to mod his/her weapons you hook that menumode and boot them out of that menumode the next frame. Same concept for dialog, repair, hacking etc. The menumode that leads to saves is the pause menu and you'd have to disable it and thus all the sub menu's it contains (continue, save, load, settings, help, quit). You could have a hotkey to turn the lock out on and off but no way to just target save (that I'm aware off) through scripting. You might be able to edit the UI, xml menu and remove it though. However, I don't know anything about tweaking that domain of fallout. But it's probably your only "clean" way of knocking out saves from the menu.
