hey all

recently ive been reading the forum bans, and I am shocked by the number of bans and strikes, and by the behavior of some people. I was just wondering why people do the following

Troll

Pirate material

Spam

and ask to be banned?

Its quiet simple really.

Troll: To have what they think is fun by messing with people.

Pirate: They would rather download stuff then pay for it. They are cheap.

Spam: Advertising=more people buy the person's stuff=profit

ask to be banned ????? to start over with a new account maybe?

Why people leave can only really be answered by those who have left.

A few people have left because of trolling, some for people using their mods without permission, or some simply leave because they have gotten bored of the site. Some also leave so that they're not tempted to post, that way they can concentrate on school or work.

yes pretty much what he said. At a few points during the school year I was thinking about asking to be banned for a month or so because my school grades were falling.

SPammers spam because they're too cheap to advertise the legal way and just buy a banner ad.

People want themselves banned because possibly they don't want their information on the web? Maybe they just want to download one mod and get out. Makes sense to not want your email address plastered across the web.

I think mistakenly for Pirate a miss spelling is more accurate in truth... download for free rather than buy it is what you meant.. but I KNOW some people do it the way you spelled it.. download for free try the game.. hate it and uninstall or like it THEN buy... kinda like taking a new car for a test drive.... hatre the thing and get rid of it.. love it then buy it. As for intentional bans some I agree want it till they ask for a rescind.. just so they can concentrate on other things especially RL .

The others.. well everyone knows someone at school or work who just seems to live solely to make yours and other co worker's lives a living hell.. and they seem to LOVE it. making other people miserable makes them happy.... they really deserve a lot more than a ban..... maybe ban them from Earth..... send them off to live on Mercury.

Unofficially...

Troll/Flame - Although there are those who make it rather clear that they were only looking to get a rise out of others, most don't troll for the sake of trolling. Many of the bans I've handed out for trolling have been mostly to people who just didn't know well enough to keep their opinions to themselves about matters that don't concern them, and who decided to express that opinion in the most offensive, hostile way they could think to put out there. Not surprisingly, many of these are related to adult mods and come from both the anti-homosexuality user base and the anti-comically-huge-breasts user base. Unfortunately, these posts tend to appear in places frequented by the pro-homosexuality user base and the pro-comically-huge-breasts user base, respectively. This is, of course an over generalization that doesn't really describe the full dynamic, but is here to express the general idea of where the problem lies and why bans are usually issued. In short, it's like walking into a clan rally and quoting Malcom X. It shows a poor judge of decision making skills, and is an act that will almost certainly not end well unless someone quickly taps that person on the shoulder and suggests that they start running.

Pirate material - This one still often leaves me scratching my head. Although I will acknowledge that to some degree, the try-before-you-buy case does exist among those who pirate games, this is still a minority, and is still doing something which is still illegal. Even if you had game companies releasing free 5-15 day trials of their games that featured mostly completely working content, you would still have persons who would download the full game illegally. The reason is simply because people usually don't pay for what they can get for free, there is supposed anonymity in the act of pirating games, and usually by the time they're done "testing" it, they've already played through most of the game content and see no reason to buy it. Even the pirate groups acknowledge this problem as most include some sort of comment about buying the game, or simply upload a version of the game that is purposely broken/infected as a means of punishing those outside their group or who are "in the know" for downloading/leeching free games.

One part which I don't quite get is where people not only mention that they downloaded a game, but go on to mention the exact group that released the version they downloaded; and then go on to explain the problems they are dealing with, mentioning what crack they used... Publicly, as if talking in detail about an illegal, and in most cases criminal, act is normal behavior. The other part is where they never once consider that that game they illegally downloaded and cracked is possibly the reason why the game refuses to work.

Spam - Most of these are either kids who are bored, idiots who think post count means anything, or just ad-bots.

ask to be banned - They have their reasons, we don't need to know them. The important part however is that people who ask to be banned without doing anything wrong are always reinstated as soon as they ask to return.

Officially...

Troll/Flame - Disruptive to the forums, users, and threads, so are not a welcome part of the community.

Pirate material - Discussion of a criminal act and something which is usually liable as encouraging other criminal acts.

Spam - Disruptive behavior or advertises commercial/dangerous sites.

ask to be banned - They have their reasons, we don't need to know them. They can always come back.
