And actually, the texture does not have to be anywhere near that big (256x256). I used a 1x1 texture and normal map for my swords. For the UV map, once you are done, click "u" and select the option for "unwrap (smart projections)" and click OK. It will create a UV map...however it is just about worthless as a UV map other than just being a UV map but since the texture does not matter, it works perfectly and you don't have to spend much time on the UV at all. I'll see about making an add-on pack real quick. Maybe even a stick creature.
