What's Wrong with the Race Descriptions?

I decided to mod even more races, when (surprise, surprise) a new problem popped up.

This time, it has to do with the race descriptions. For example, when I duplicate, say, the Argonian, then erase the duplicate's race description, the Argonian's description is also erased.

I tried this with the Breton as well, just to make sure that it wasn't just the Argonian. Well, it does it to the Breton too.

This isn't something I had a problem with before, so I don't know why it just suddenly began.

If you read this, please reply if you have any idea on what the problem is.

I had same problem, so I use other tool to edit race description. Or you can try this, though I'm not sure it will work well:

- Duplicate a race, but do not edit it right away. Instead, save the plugin, then exit Construction Set.(although I don't think exiting, the restarting CS is necessary)

- Restart CS, load the plugin, then edit duplicated race.

Rename the xxxxxDUPLICATE000 race before you alter it's characteristics or description.

I was wondering what tool you used to edit the race descriptions.

I have created new races -- sometimes you have to click off the race you are editing for the description to 'stick' (CS weirdness, I guess) -- but I have never encountered the original race's description being changed or removed. I just went into the CS to try to replicate what you describe, but could not. Is it possible that you could describe, step-by-step, the actions that you took?

Very well.

I opened CS, set Oblivion.esm as my active file. I then opened the list of races, and copied the Argonian. After changing the ID of the new race, I went in and edited its Attributes, skills, etc. Then, I edited its appearance, and changed its name and erased the description to make my own. Unfortunately, when I did that, it also erased the Argonian's race description.

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but it only seems to happen if I don't change to race's height and weight. Maybe I should check that out.

Ok, the thing that I have noticed, as stated, is that very often changing the name in the Text Data tab does not 'stick'. These are the steps that I take: same as you up to the point of changing the name and erasing the description. What I do is change the name and then click off the new race (on Breton, for instance). Go back to the new race and see if the new name has stuck; repeat until the new name sticks. Then, and only then, do I change the description. I have no idea why changing the name does not stick unless you click off it first -- even if you click 'OK' it more often than not stays the same.
