whitescar911
So last I put up a topic asking about if I should upgrade my 680 2GB to a 970 4GB or wait until the 970 8GB comes out. Basically i wanted to know if that extra 4GB of vram would make a difference when I running a ton of mods with ultra high resolution textures. I never really got a straight answer but I did find my self with another question, could I be doing something wrong with my mods. For those interested in the other thread regarding the VRAN please see here. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2310734-nvidia-8gb-970980s/ So the last post, as of writing this, was pointing out that I might have bad files. So I wanted to throw out some FPS numbers when running say an enb and seeing if what I get matches up with what other people get or think I should be getting. Here is a list of the things i have tested so far. Skyrim no mods and no ENB/60-120fps drops to about 60-70 when looking at cities mountains with lots of trees. Skyrim no mods and The grim and somber ENB/ 30fps mostly, drops to around 25 when looking at NPC's cities etc.http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50501/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D50501%26preview%3D&pUp=1 Skyrim with no mods and Realvision ENB/40fps drops to about 35http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30936/? Then I tested both of these ENB with EWIs High SkyrimPrefs and inishttp://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/59810/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D59810&pUp=1 FPS in both ENB's were the same as before. So using a 2GB 680 I lose about 30 to 100+ fps just from adding an ENB, this performance lose acceptable?
Reynard131
What are you using to determine FPS ? They are all slightly different how they measure results.. Edited November 30, 2014 by Reynard131
whitescar911
I used afterburner for skyrim with nothing else installed, then used the ENB fps counter when I installed those.
notmyhome
Going above 60 FPS usually means inviting all sorts of Poltergeists to your game, as Havok responds to that with having objects floating around. Is your vsync disabled?
camaro_69_327
These days it does NOT help to have OR use the Vsync that Skyrim uses. Anybody with a Monitor set to say 144HZ (mine) will have Skyrims Vsync giving you 144 FPS. This can be fixed.... With an ENB you use FPS Limiter..(not Vsync)[LIMITER]WaitBusyRenderer=falseEnableFPSLimit=falseFPSLimit=60.0 Set the above to True and it will CAP your FPS to 60. In Nvidia (method I use) Set Vsync to "adaptive 1/2 refresh rate" this nets me a CAP of 72 FPS...LMAO...ya like i ever see that with 200+ mods and a full blown ENB. I do get a steady 38 - 40 tho. +++++++++++++++++ To OP , Check everything in the IN-game menu for ENB [shift + enter].....Open each category and when you see "0 High, 1 medium...ECT that is indicating you can change the level that setting is using....when you click that line you can then choose High, Medium , Low....I had to go thru my ENB and set everything to Medium. Will Take PIC in a few...done>>PIC Edited November 30, 2014 by camaro_69_327
whitescar911
I switched V sync off, but I the point i was making was should i be getting 30-40 with these enb install using a 2gb 680?
dayglo98
Pretty much all ENBS that use SSAO and Bokeh DOF will drop your fps to these numbers. I use Tamriel Reloaded ENB, with the HIGH preset. With some personal tweaking of enbseries.ini I have great fps with a R9 280X. Pretty much always close to 60. That is with Climates of Tamriel and Realistic Lighting Overhaul.
