Do you enjoy school?

I appreciate seeing a bit of enthusiasm on the nexus-but you'll have to get used to waiting for a reply. It's a totaly international site-I normaly dont bother checking for replies until about 5 hours after the original post, since the regulars are spread across almost every time zone.

I would say that I really did enjoy some elements of school. A few of the teachers I had were true visionaries, and taught me some things that really werent part of the text books. My year 5 tacher for example, taught me the basics of watercolour painting and sketching.

I would also say that on the whole I did not however enjoy it. I can only tolerate being talked down to about subjects I know much about by ignorant dilletants so long, and after 12 years, that wears you down. I didnt get a lot out of schooling on the whole, I left public schools at year 8 and went to the university nonstandardised secotr, and learned more in a week than in my whole 8 previous years combined.

I grew up in australia and the teachers I had, for the most part, had very limited general knowledge, very very narrow world views, and absolutely no ability to accept a diferent world view, let alone to understand it. My case was made worse because I was a "mental"-having chronic mental illnesses makes for a poor education when statistics, diagnoses, and numbers are all the bringers of education care about.

No, I did not. But times were different then 45 years ago, and I left school early, with no examns. I discovered the world, I learned everything (and much more) later in life, and hold to day a further education.

Some classes I enjoy, the ones that are useful. For example, I love engineering class, and computer applications, because they are relevant and have a real-world application. Some other fields haven't changed in years. Literature springs to mind. It's a relic of the past, just made a core class because people think kids need to read.
