ElricOfGrans
I am one of those hardcore roleplayer types who only does whatever they feel their character would do. This is how I find my fun, but it sometimes makes it difficult for me to try certain quests. Since I tend to play `good' characters, `evil' quests are extremely difficult to get to. I have only heard good things about the quests for the Dark Brotherhood and Shivering Isles, and want to give them a go, but have found myself failing to create a character for them. I made one attempt at the Shivering Isles before, by making a character obsessed with Daedric Artifacts, but by the time I defeated the Gate Keeper I could not convince myself they would continue further. My last attempt at making a character for the Dark Brotherhood was a disaster. I am now almost 200 hours into this sniper, and she has just finished the Knights of the Nine (along with almost every other good quest in the game). It turned out she was actually honourable! I need a little help in crafting a character who would, from a roleplaying sense, `fit' with the Dark Brotherhood and the Shivering Isles. Considering we are talking `murderer' and `insane', I guess I need a Jack the Ripper or Hannibal Lecter type of figure (open to suggestions on other archetypes!). I am not very good at coming up with evil characters (obviously), so could use some advice on crafting such a figure. I could also use some advice on picking major skills that would work well with those two plot-lines. I use Realistic Levelling, so I do not need to worry about efficient levelling, but I do need to pick Major Skills based on what I want to use. I definitely need a break from playing a sniper, but am not really sure where to take it from there. I use Fran's Levelled Quests, so it is also important I can find ways to raise my skills outside the quests, else I will find myself falling too far behind the power-curve as the minimum level of each quests increases. This latter point probably ties into the roleplay quite comfortably (eg practising Blade on innocent victims).
Megatarius
If you find it hard to get into the mind of a character that would do such things, why not pick one of your most honorable characters, give them a shady past they wish to forget, and just import the face into a new save, and crank the age slider all the way down. We all make mistakes when we're young. The only problem is, the character will interacting some of the same quests they will grow up to do again later, but not necessarily. I do stuff like this all the time and so what if you have to do a few scenes over?
BlackerrR
Well, I understand, I was like that too. I 'urge' you to go in Shivering Isles and finish main quest since there is no player (as far as I know) that doesn't like playing with Sheogorath. When talking about mistakes, you can go through Dark Brotherhood before Knights of the Nine. All of your infamy will be erased from history. Also, when you finish DB quests, you can talk to Prophet about that and you will see what he has to say, he's pretty positive about it. So, you don't have to look too evil for DB and SI quests, everything can be forgotten.
Yamcakes
I often roleplay a character that killed in desperation. Sometimes being a thief with a job gone horribly wrong, or a innocent captive with no way out of a captor's basement confinement, but to kill them when they come to feed you. They fall in love with the man that's come to them in the night, and do his bidding to win his heart. The quests don't have to be a messy bloodbath at all, you have the options of using poisons in food, and with various mods, other methods of getting it done. You could even have killed someone out of mercy, and let the brotherhood mistake you for a cold-hearted murderer, and play along with them tofind out their secrets, and subsequently cleanse the world of their impure doings. >.>There are various different dialogue options during those quests that make it fitting for almost any style of roleplaying. DOHC46
You could try a brave gladiator character concept, a more-or-less honorable character, who enters the IC arena for fame and glory. This would be Champion Of The People could easily perform Agronak's side quest and be mistaken for a cold-blooded killer by the Dark Brotherhood, to build on/tweak Yamcakes' idea. This fits in the concept, and performing The Origin of the Gray Prince quest and then challenging Agronak for the title of Grand Champion is considered murder, unless you have the Unofficial Oblivion Patch installed. Of course, you could also justify killing Alval Uvani, who seems to hate you for no reason (he is a target of a DB quest later on, and it will not break the questline to kill him.) He is verbally hostile to most other NPC's so a heroic character could decide that removing him would benefit many people by removing a potentailly dangerous individual. As for Shivering Isles, I have ventured there, and I often assume I'm the only sane one in the land. Only a sane Champion could stem the tide of the forces of Order. (Otherwise, you might be inclined to try stopping the enemy army with a ditch full of clowns.) Or, your heroic champion could always just go crazy from boredom after saving the world from Oblivion and wind up in the Shivering Isles... Deleted1662706User
I usually play as a Wood Elf expelled from the Fighters Guild. Aye, it was a dark night, hunting those Mountain Lions and I really couldn't see. Needless to say I ended up killing the hunter, accidently on purpose. I am then found by Lucien who saves me, and "trains" me to kill whoever I need to. Killing loads of citizens sent me mad, so I fled to the Shivering Isles, and eventually become Madgod. dethwaker3
I wouldn't call Shivering Isles an evil place....just a deadric god not the divines...Sheogorath is more funny than evil....

I rather like Sheogorath myself, but ... some of the SI quests gave you only a choice between evils. My character actually had less of a problem with the Dark Brotherhood quests than with some of the Shivering Isles quests.

Be some kind of vigilante, like when I whacked that potential dark brotherhood member, when after he heard the book and Mythic Dawn were tied to the emperor's assassination. I knew he was lying, when he said that he wanted nothing to do with it. Followed him and whacked him right in the street, when no one was around. Then I stole his clothes and ran for it. ElricOfGrans
Oh, wow, I love that vigilante idea! They live under their own justice and laws. That fits perfectly with my usual playstyle, while also allowing for the more evil quests. Yes, that is absolutely ideal. Thank you for all the opinions. This has been a very interesting read!
