sleaaels
:excl: I'm pretty curious, ok very curious. Can someone explain the facts for me? I can't stand having to insert my dvd in everytime i want to play oblivion, so i download a no-cd crack, is that illegal? After all i have paid the full price for the original; therefore, is it my right to decide if i want to be bogged down with the need to insert the DVD for playing? hypothetically; if a game was maliciously destroyed beyond repair, is it still illegal to download a copy, since you still are in possession of the original, or whatever is left of it? "Some one I know" had a bad copy of an original (it just wouldn't install properly) so he/she went back to the gameshop and got another, STILL no cigar. The Third time was just obsurd, but he just couldn't give a rats arse to go back for the third time...so he downloaded a copy as well as told the shop that they may have some duds on their shelf. Is this wrong? I do not buy into the "only black and white", i believe there are some instance of grey, am i right? Now i can understand the need to prevent piracy, i may not buy into the propaganda that "piracy supports terrorist" but i know that piracy has a negative impact on society directly and indirectly. Besides piracy raises the prices of games, which effects all of us.
Dark0ne
I'm opening this up again because this is really a debate on whether No-CD's are considered piracy or not. For me, they're not, simply because they provide a performance benefit for those people with a legal copy. Similarly I regularly make mini-images of my games (like BF2, which can't be properly pirated since it's multiplayer only) to reduce the need to swap CDs around in my drives. Software like Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, etc. are legal in some countries and not in others. I know a lot of Europe has made such software illegal (not sure if England has or not) but I believe the American's still retain the right to use it. In regards to the forum rules here I think there's a distinct difference between asking questions as to whether No-CD "cracks" can improve in-game performance (for example) and blatently asking for a No-CD crack since you don't have a legal copy. Making sure moderators can differentiate between the two is important. Now i can understand the need to prevent piracy, i may not buy into the propaganda that "piracy supports terrorist" but i know that piracy has a negative impact on society directly and indirectly. In the 90's the IRA earnt over £10,000 a day selling pirated goods on the black market.

I stand corrected.
Dark0ne
Ah forgot about the IRA, I kept thinking Middleastern Terrorists...me being narrow minded and short sighted. I stand corrected. They do it too. Irony is American and English soldiers go over to Afghanistan and Iraq to fight terrorism, buy films and games while they're out there and inevitably end up funding the AK-47s that are killing them. Irony of ironies.
Nerivant
I know of one program, but I can't remember it's name. It's about 10 dollars, and copies the software from a cd you own onto your comp, letting you play without the disc... I'll look for the name later... Evangelion_2014
Good thing this isn't the offical TES forum, or else everybody would be insta-banned.
Nerivant
Good thing this isn't the offical TES forum, or else everybody would be insta-banned. Even I? I didn't mention anything even slightly illegal... But I still can't find the name, sorry about that.
chrisdragon425
I use a no-dvd patch as well because I would rather keep the DVD in mint condition than have it wear down over time from using it constantly.

That's the problem every gamer suffers from. Whenever I get a game, I make a copy of the image and put it on a harddisk. Then I play with the original. When the original breaks, I put it away in a closet and burns a new one. This might be illegal, but Bethesda wouldn't send me a new dvd when my original breaks. They don't lose money. I'm not going to by it again, you see :)
