Why not separate adult mods in the file section?

While browsing some old threads, I came across this post from Vagrant0:

"This sort of topic pops up every now and then. The bottom line is that the only way mods featuring sensible equipment will be made is if you make them yourself. Clearly the masses have their own interests and agendas and aren't all that interested in changing. However, ranting about it and arguing for or against the freedom of people to upload whatever they want doesn't change it. If it bothers you that much, make suggestions for specific outfits and armors with examples, or learn to do some basic re-texturing yourself. If these people doing low quality work are as bad as you think, it shouldn't be that hard to do something better that suits your own interests.

We aren't going to remove or segregate adult mods, or impose the same image restrictions that the image share has on mod images, that's pretty much final. If a mod image clearly isn't there for showing content of the described mod, that's a different matter; such mod pages should be reported so that they can be handled on a case by case basis."

My question is: Why not? I mean, as stated, the image section has already been split. Why not the mods too? I'm clearly not the only one that would appreciate something like this. Just curious, thanks to any that can help.

EDIT: My post was autocensored apparently for the word describing inappropriate, graphic and explicit images / content... Although I don't find the word to be really inappropriate itself as much as a description, "Reading Material" was the result. Hope this helps the confusion.

The reason is quite simple:

Robin Scott decided he didn't want to host a bunch of reading material-images for the sole reason that this isn't a porn site, however, he wants people to still express their freedom of modification as those actually serve a purpose. He decided this BECAUSE of his own opinions, his own judgments, and his own personal likings, and can do so because he pays for this site, its hostings and everything out of pocket. He didn't want to host something, so he won't.

Because the images in mods are not cut out is due to the fact people need demonstrations of what the mod offers. These are actually relevant images and not just some reading material for someone to become aroused with... well... Ya, just emphasize "not JUST"..

Here is the entire quote of his own words and reasonings, and his word is final. If you want changes or suggestions you can feel free to appropriately and politely ask him.

Since the rule changes introduced on May 1st there has been some confusion about what is and isn’t acceptable within the normal Image Share section that everyone can access. This confusion is mostly down to me not coming down hard enough on exactly what is an isn’t acceptable; I failed at taking a more democratic approach in an attempt to receive less flak and it back-fired, so sorry about that. Next time I’ll just come straight out with it!

No nudity

I am going to amend the rules accordingly and apply a complete “no nudity” clause on the normal Image Share section. As a side note the Supporter Image Share section is unaffected by this change and if you use this section then you need not worry. “No nudity” includes boobs and genitalia as well as visible pubic hair in the genitalia area. Once again these rules apply from this date (28th of June) onwards. A few people have been banned recently for various offenses based on the loose rules applied at the start of May and as a show of good faith I am going to unban those accounts that were banned for uploading nudity in the Image Share section. If you haven’t been unbanned by the 29th of June then get in contact with me via the site contact forms and let me know your account username so I can explore it.

Many people are perplexed by my decision to stop these images from being uploaded for everyone to view, it’s understandable. I’ve turned a blind-eye to a lot of the content in the Image Share section since it’s very start. There’s lots of great stuff, and lots of not so great stuff. Image after image of the same characters doing the same nude poses from different angles with different lighting is my idea of the not so great stuff. I don’t care for it and quite frankly I don’t want to be hosting it on my servers. Yes, there’s an adult-only content filter (that some have just taken to mean “nude content” filter) but adult-only content is more than just nudity. It’s excessive gore, it’s risque comic-strips, it’s pictures of characters wearing the skimpiest outfits possible without breaking the rules. It’s basically everything you wouldn’t want to have your boss catching you looking through at work.

As far as nude mods go; I use them. It’s been a while since I actually played Oblivion but I enjoyed my own childish humour of stripping NPCs naked who’ve annoyed me/gotten in my way and dragging them out in the street for all to see. Hey, we all have our own little quirks, right? That doesn’t mean I get my rocks off to nude content or that I endorse graphic pictures of NPCs doing all sorts of poses and sex positions. You might like that, you might just like setting up the angles and lighting, I don’t know and I honestly don’t care. We all have our own fantasies and idiosyncrasies but it’s not my wish, desire or obligation to offer a platform for others to explore them. My wish is to run a network of sites on my own terms. A network I’m proud of and one that I can share with my family, friends and the greater community.

This is about more than just censoring stuff for minors or it all being acceptable because they are games rated "Mature" for adults. It's about what I personally am willing to host and not host in the Image Share section and this is where I have drawn the line. You might not like it, or agree with it, but this is my sentiment and my own opinion.

So what is and isn’t acceptable? To aid in better understanding the rules I’m going to use examples from the Image Share section of what is and isn’t acceptable, as well as what content should be marked as adult-only content. Pictures were selected by me and I'm not attempting to single-out anyone. Some members are very good at marking their content as adult-only and I thank them for that.

Unacceptable content

Pose not allowed due to having a see-through top

Pose not allowed for visible breasts

Another pose disallowed for having visible breasts

Disallowed pose for having visible pubic hair around the bikini bottoms. This picture would be perfectly acceptable if it didn't have the pubic hair

Acceptable with adult-only filter turned on

Border-line pose that, while showing nipples, is covered up

Gory combat shot that should be marked as adult-only as a courtesy to people browsing at work/around kids at home

Same as above

Same as above

Acceptable with adult-only content filter, but less clothing on the breasts or a shot that contained more of the lower body and it probably wouldn't be (I assume there would be hair showing)

Hopefully this should help to clear up the confusion regarding the rule changes in the Image Share section and the sort of things you should be marking as adult-only if you're an image uploader.

I would just like to add a further note to the bottom of this article and say that I'm aware of the ethical, philosophical, sociological and pyschology matters around this subject. Yes, I'm allowing violence and not nudity. I'm aware of the irony in the taboo. I took an A Level in Philosophy when I was 18 and took further psychology, sociology and philosophy modules at university and have debated the subject many times with my peers and lecturers in various capacities. I have considered all the views, both my own and as devil's advocate in making this decision.

Hope this helps clarify things.

I, for one, would not want this to happen. Most adult mods are set as adult by their authors, while those that are not are removed, set as adult by the staff or by our members that tag the files. When you find an adult mod with the adult filter on, feel free to report it. I also think that making even more categories and starting to sort out thousands of mods at this point is not such a good idea. The best solution has been found already and that is the adult filter. I don't use it at home, but I must use it when I log in when I'm at work and to be honest it does a good job.

Cheers,

Pushkatu!
