Hi all,

I lam a big fan of 3d modeling but have never been able to get into it until now. I've used some of the mods I found here on the site and am very impressed and would like to start making my own. I simply don't know a good place to begin.

I have nifscope but that won't let me make any changes to the models other than deleting layers. What is the program most of you use here to create / modify models (specifically for Fallout 3, but also Oblivion)?

hi charat-chan,

well I Think is Blender that you can find at fallout 3 nexus, but I also do not have much practice it takes time to become skillful :wallbash:

About oblivion i dont' know because i never play at oblivion...sorry

Oh yeah I remember blender... I DID download that once. But it wouldn't load up any preexisting models that I got.... and without much skill in the area XD I couldn't figure out how to make my own. Since I was still new at it I just wanted to start off tweaking some models I downloaded from here (wasn't going to repost or claim any credit for them mind you) but just wanted to have a try at it.... and they wouldn't load up.

I think you need to download a .nif importer plugin to do that.

Yes, you have to install Blender NIF Scripts...but Blender NIF Scripts requires PyFFI...but PyFFI requires Python...all of which require specific versions to work.

To save yourself the hassle of knowing all this and side-step issues with Vista and Windows 7 as well as 32-bit vs 64-bit, simply go to this page, download the current package and following the readme for installing all the software bundled in the archive. Make sure you uninstall any existing versions you have installed.

Once you do that, read the Noob-to-Pro manual for it to get the basics. It may seem difficult at first but if you stick with it, it will become very easy to use it.

We also opened up a section of the forums recently dedicated to Blender. Be sure to look over the pinned thread that is choke-full of tutorials and useful links.

I'll soon be doing my own section on blender to help people out and kind of give them that boost that I had to search long and hard for, so be sure to check that out once it's up. :)
