BuddaBelly
I'm just starting to learn how to mod. I thought that making some small changes to an existing mod would be the easiest way to start. There is a mod that I really like (Dragonborn Manor Redone) but hasn't been updated in over two years. The mod author has been banned for some reason. There are some things that I would like to do to this mod. In reading the posts for the mod one said that everybody that has taken over the mod has either been banned or left the Nexus. As I'm just starting out I certainly don't want to get banned, so my questions are: 1) As the mod author is banned and I can't contact him is it OK to take over the mod?2) How about a piece of the mod, the bedroom for instance.3) As the post says that people that have taken over the mod have been banned, can you be banned for something in your mod?4) Is there a way to find out why someone was banned? There seem to be more than one person associated with this mod that have been banned which makes me curious as to why. As you can tell I'm interested in this mod and don't want to make the same mistakes.
Deleted31005User
1) in the permissions tab it states that you need to contact the modder for hes permission to mod anything on that house mod, and since he is now banned this is impossible so in essence...you cannot take over the mod.2) Same as 1.3) You can get banned if you copy things over from other mods, especially if those are custom created assets(meshes/textures) created by that author. Normally if that author used nothing but original game assets it "should" be fine to use those same objects, but putting them in the exact same order (aka copying the entire bedroom) could still be considered stealing so I would avoid it if I were you.You can try to re-create something from scratch so that it looks different though.4)Yes, search for the specific name in this forum http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/188-forum-rules-and-warnings/Seems Pitbul got banned for creating another account when he was previously banned already. My advice would be to just avoid that mod since its clearly a mess with the author banned and now you cannot contact him, if it would say in the permissions tab that you can edit the mod then it would be okay, but in this case you need to contact the author which is just impossible at this point. You can still edit things for your own personal game of course, just make sure to not upload it because that will get you a warning or even a ban yourself.Sry for the bad news. Oubliette
1. no. 2.You can make an addon to it, so long as it gives the original creator credit and still requires the original mod. Though thanks to some abuses of that system lately this may be changing. 3. Yes you can be banned for something in your mod. Though usually you'll get a warning and the chance to change things first. I remember one modder was banned for continuously stealing models from others, they were asked repeatedly to remove it but after failing to do so several times were banned. 4. Forum rules and strikes subforum has ALL ban noticed posted for everyone to see.
BuddaBelly
Oil well......I mean oh well. I guess it's better to learn by making my super wonderful, highly exciting practically orgasmic mod instead.
Rabbit1251
A clarification. You can do whatever you want with the mod without any permissions granted providing it is for your own use. What you will get in trouble for is re-uploading the mod to the Nexus without the author's permission. No way around that I'm afraid. BuddaBelly
OK, that's not so bad. I can still make it how I would like it without the mod natzis showing up and jacking my computer.
cdcooley
If you're just starting as a modder it's probably a good idea to tweak a few mods for your personal use before creating something you want to upload anyway. The practice you get and things you can learn from looking at other mods is very valuable even if you don't share those first few changes with the world. BuddaBelly
I thought that might be the case. I just wanted to ensure I wasn't stepping outside the bounds of acceptable behavior.
