I have a level 65 character, who has done most things in the game (++open world exploring, Harbinger, ArchMage, destroyed the DB, almost completed the TG, latter part of the MQ, halfway through DG).

But lately it has started to feel like a "need to get this job done" kind of situation.

I am not the type of person that can 'not finish' something, so I keep grinding it out.

I also feel the numerous CTD I experience for who knows what reasons (some certainly related to mods, but which ones? as TES5Edit and SaveGameCleaner, and LOOT - which just messes things up, and CK are not always fixing).

So, how do you keep it 'fresh'? I played DA Origins through many times (all origins to Ostagar, Mage/Noble through several times, unmodded, modded), and the characters kept me involved, as every play through you could notice subtle differences in the relationships with the NPC companions.

Skyrim just doesn't offer this, so what makes the game for you?

Personally ... I just wander Skyrim, have one nice home and explore without doing any 'quests'. I bought the deluxe and legendary games with the maps showing every location in the game - I have been playing since the game came out and have not yet found every location - not even close. -- I don't refer to the map at all.

For me, this keeps the game fresh. I stumble on places (some in the weirdest locations) all the time and never know what I'll run into, or find. The quests have a beginning, middle and end ... I want to 'live' in Skyrim, wander through the wilderness (no followers) and explore every nook and cranny. If I get a bit bored with that, I make myself a mod that offers something different to serve my wanderings better such as specialty merchants or different skill trainers. Or peruse the nexus for an interesting mod.

There is also hope that the project 'Beyond Skyrim' will be completed in my lifetime, and I would love to explore all of Tamriel in the 4th Era and how it may have changed :)

I think the ONE biggest thing that keeps me in Skyrim - is the quality of the graphics - I can pretend I'm really there; when I'm in my shower bathing - I actually sigh, and relax as I get 'cleaned up' after a long day of mucking about in a smelly dungeon.

But that's just me :)

Personally, by not doing EVERYTHING with ONE CHARACTER. I've had at least five or six characters by now; Illusionist/conjuror, Rogue, pure wizard, necromancer, elementalist but I've never done everything with one character. My rogue never joined the companions or mages guild, my necromancer never helped Meridia, my rogue never bother to even go on with the main quest.. so on and so forth.

I believe people get burned out because they do everything on one character, level every skill, beat every storyline and afterwards, there is nothing. One of the cons, that comes with the level of freedom the elderscrolls gives.

Like LeianneG I ignore the quests and just explore the countryside looking for adventure. I don't like middle games and absolutely hate end games so when I get too high a level and things start feeling like work I start all over where the adventure really is. I must have a couple of dozen characters that I've played and never once completed the game.

Yes, I think I tried to do to much with this guy, because he was so awesome.

If I play through again, I will do so many things differently, including selecting just a few queslines, and mods (I am addicted to cool looking armor sets...I spend to much time at the forge and enchanting table making the latest cool looking armor for Erik, Aela, Jordis, the brothers and Vilja, hell even Serana -> It's not funny)

Lol, that's the opposite of me, I could care little about armor look, o spend hours trying to put new spells, new quest, and new gameplay mechanics into my game...

I've broken my saves quite a few times.

Yeah, I've sent more level 25 characters to Sovngarde than bandits have. But I keep doing it all over again. I think Skyrim is my most replayed game since networked Doom and MOO2. Mods help now and then, but there is just something about this game that keeps me coming back, mods or not, even though it might not be my favorite game ever. And there's still a lot of mods to try. Tired of shooters. Tired of MMO's (although I am waiting for Star Citizen). Not quite tired of TES games, yet (I still play Oblivion now and then). Actually can't wait for TES6, although, like TESO, I'm afraid Bethesda will miss the mark one of these days.

EDIT: Geez, forgot why I wanted to post here. I run into "work" every now and then, cause I pretty much know where things are going in the game. I just keep adding mods that make the journey different and more interesting. At this point, the trip is more important than the destination.

I usually get to the point where I can start making really nice armor for myself and I run into a buggy quest line that cannot be finished. I just shelved my 5th character in as many months because of this buggy damned game. The latest ignored nearly every quest line but the main, when I got to reading the scroll at the peak the game refused to allow me to continue. At this point I'm going to try something I haven't done before, one life no respawns. Likely wont help.

I felt like this when I restarted all my characters a while back. And then dreaded having to re-level them and get the stats and armor they had had.

In that time I remembered one thing. Skyrim isn't about worrying about doing a quest or rushing through anything. Its about going at your own pace and making great memories. The near death experiences the dragons slamming down near you and nearly obliterating you.

Take your time. Explore, Experiment, Just try to enjoy the game like you did in the start. Theres a reason I have 11 characters and have plenty ideas for more. :3
