Fireinthedust
While I realize that's the point of new NPC mods, it would be cool to have some kind of ShowRaceMenu option for NPCs. Moreover, the ability to walk up to a magic mirror or Oblivion gate, and "summon up the spirit of one long dead". In Sjel Blad castle there is the option of basically altering your character in-game by using the "ascension" rooms. You have to earn "shards" by fighting monsters or NPCs, fine, but otherwise it's a way to access your game info via in-game material. There are loads of mods I'd like to use on, say, followers in game, especially hair mods, or changing their skills to suit new gear mods. What if there was something that allowed you to access body types, hair, races, whatever, just like ShowRaceMenu; basically something that's a user-friendly way to access files in the .esm or .esps, using scrollers (like how I can access all the kinds of hair in ASCII with ShowRaceMenu); and whether they're a follower, able to be a spouse, etc. Or, additionally (and I don't know if this is already a thing) some way to alter the followers I already have without going into CK. Like, change their hair, height, weight, gender, voice; potentially even their skill array (so I could make, say, Lydia a mage or archer or warrior of a different kind than the main file). This would not change the vanilla, but maybe create a version unique to that save game, like Lydia1? Or whatever the character's new name would be. Is this reasonable? I'm basically a newb, but it seems like the sort of thing that could be really handy, and possible.
DoctorKaizeld
the mod Alternate Actors allows you to take control of NPCs and use the Racemenu on them. just remember you cannot change their race in game, to do that you have to use the CK and you have to start a new game. Good for a start, thanks! Is there a way to create them from scratch? More user-friendly than the CK, the way Race Menu allows noobs to scroll between options and see them? DoctorKaizeld
create NPCs from scratch? yes you have to use the CK for that. now if you want to just start the NPCs face from scratch you can just use the presets.
lofgren
Couldn't you just use the PlaceActorAtMe console command and then use Alternate Actors to set its appearance as you please? Just use a non-unique actorbase like a random bandit (get the actorbase ID from UESP Wiki). Sure it's not technically "from scratch" but once you've customized the appearance and equipment who would know the difference? Fireinthedust
I just think that NPCs could be "crafted" just like enchanted items, potions, and so forth. Maybe you need Soul Gems as a material component, but it would be neat to see. What if, immersion-wise, I wanted to revive a follower who got killed off on a quest? I could grab their gear, run to the "Temple of the Gate of Souls" with a black soul gem or three, and "request of the keeper that they return to me the fallen mortal matching this description" (but this time blonde...) And that is a good point, I could see that working. I wonder if I'd be able to make them a unique person, as opposed to changing all ever? I'll give it a try tonight!
