Vindekarr
I need to know a lot more than "do bodies ever go away?" Who's corpse, how long ago was it killed, and how was it killed. I'll also need to know what mods you are using and whether you are on Xbox 360, PS3, Oblivion on PC via a disk, via Steam, via D2D, or via piracy. In a short answer, in Oblivion, normaly they dont. Bodies will simply disolve after a matter of hours or days depending on where you and and who they were. You do however have a "fresh-killed" period in which a number of actions can be performed. On the PC, disk version, once you have engaged in combat with an AI you have enormous power over them, if you want to use it, likewise, killing them simply turns them into a usable resource. While alive, you can do all sorts of things to AI even in Vanilla Oblivion, twists their actions, warp their personalities, turn benevolant clergimen into raving sociopaths, reform the worst felons, but once they're dead the options just get more interesting. The first thing you need to know however is the basic corpse types and how long they last: a townsperson can last for about a week in game, but make sure you do what needs doing within 3 days gametime, any longer and they may not be there when you return. All characters that attack you on siight, such as those that inhabit ruins and caves, respawn after 3 days. Guards too respawn after a long enough while, so you cant massacre an entire force. Nothing else does. Shopkeepers, citizens, servants and prostitutes never respawn, once they're dead, they're dead. Those that do not respawn are the only ones suitable for use in experiments. Do not ever attempt to manipulate a dead bandit for exmaple, if it respawns, messing with it's coding could have dire consequences. Once dead the first thing you can do is to revive them, but you've got to act fast, revive directly on the corpse within 30 seconds and they will wake up, alive and unharmed, but weakened. Secondly you can also encounter a strange glitch. If you wait(20 minutes for AI, 45 seconds for yourself) you can create a perculia entity I call a Zambi. These things retain the outward appearance and actions of their previous self, but lose a large amount of data. It's like zombifying the code of the game, it may look alive, a but "Zambi" isnt totaly there anymore. the AI will be damaged, perhaps even corrupted, and will have dificulty interacting with AI. They also lose the ability to cast spells, as their spell list is deleted, have their attributes restored to the default of their race, and lose any effects they had. For example, an orc you revive after 20 minutes loses his orcish resistance to magic. Finaly, you can try to revive yourself as a zambi but it's a dicy process. within 30 seconds revive yourself once, wait another thirty seconds and pull the switch again, you should climb to your feet as a playable Zambi, though you'll need a Character Generate Amulet to restor your lost abilities. I've tried to answer any possible questions with this, if not, tell me.

Vindekarr
If you want the bodies gone, press ~ then type disable click on a body and press enter. ~ ia the key to the left of 1 at the top left corner, this command simply deletes them bodies instantly, or you could do createfullactorcopy to instantly respawn them or ressurect to make them revive as a corrupted "code ghost"
GrailQuest
Bodies "go away" if the character is not Persistent (some modders to that to make sure a corpse stays there because they need it to hold quest items or what not), AND if you haven't been to the cell for at least a number of hours equal to the global cell respawn time (typically 72 hours). Some tools can change this time (e.g., Wrye Bash). You can also temporarily set it using the console command "setgs ihourstorespawncell". This will work for interior and exterior cells but you need to exit the cell and re-enter. Example: You just cleared out all the monsters and treasure in a ruin, and just for the heck of it, you want to do it all over again. You can exit the ruin, use console command "setgs ihourstorespawncell 0", then re-enter the ruin. That one AREA in the ruin It should now have refreshed completely, restocking it with monsters and loot except where were specifically tagged by the modder not to respawn. To do the same for an exterior cell, go to an interior cell and do the console command, then, without reloading your game, return to the cell you wanted respawned. All cells loaded after you leave the interior cell will be respawned. Remember that in outdoors, Oblivion loads your current cell plus all cells in a two cell radius. To "target" specific exterior cells for respawn, use one of the various teleport / mark-recall spell mods available, or a combination of coc and player.moveto if you know how to use those. To restore the global cell respawn time, save your game and restore it -- changes to Global Settings variables are not saved in a savegame.
