That's mostly because DiRT is getting on 4 years old now.

And secondly, they're entirely diferent genres.

I'd still take DiRT over these lumpn any day. Forgive my irritation but it's just in a diferent league to Gran Turismo. After playing the last four, which were abysmal, Im not going to bother with GT5. The problem is that it's an old fashioned, outdated, and entirely stagnant game hiding under modern graphics. If you want a good sim, try DiRT, dont waste your money in this. Because you'll only get GT 2 with HD graphics.

Im a very harsh critic of racing games, for the mnost part they're laughably unrealistic, dull, and in many cases, simply terrible quality. GT 5 proglogue, GT4. 3, and 2 may sell themselves as sims but the handling is nothing at all like a real race car, yet the design is some emphasised on being a misguided sim that it lacks any genuine fun factor, I mean, rumbling around a track all day in a toyota corolla is not fun, it's tedious, so why in Hel's dark name would these devs make an entire game about it?

Only get this if you like shiney graphics, many older games exist that blow GT out of the water both as a franchise, and as a quality racer. But if I've got any advice to someone buying a racer, it's avoid sims altogether, try DiRT 2 or maybe Burnout Paradise or Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, other than that, dont bother, racing games as a genre are in a tailspin right now and a good one hasnt been released in a long time.

Better still, go to Amazon and buy an old used copy of one the the older generation racers. The better the graphics the worse the gameplay usualy is in these things. i've been playing virtualy every big-name racing franchise since 1998 and I really really recomend you avoid this.

Remember gran Turismo 5 caters more then just one racing type, it has several others. If you are a truly a racing fan like i am you would see how grand this game is, compared to the rest of them, it has a completely new engine they have made from the ground up for the ps3..

Its all of a matter of opinion though..

Not to mention the 1000+ cars and the possible dlc they might bring out.

I've played around with dirt 2, and the graphics are amazing, but the story well there isn't really one at all and the career mode is short compared to Gran turismo, it can't be beaten.

I'm not a huge fan of Gran Turismo, they've tended to sit somewhere between sim and arcade, lacking the challenge of the former and the fun of the latter. I might give this a look though, they've put a hell of a lot into this and if they finally get the handling somewhere near right it might just be a winner. Anyway I've just bought a Logitech Driving Force GT, it was designed in cooperation with Polyphony for this game (Works on the PC too). I actually bought it for F1 2010 (out this week  ) but it'll be interesting to see just how well GT5 plays with it.

Thor, I've lost some respect for you.

You have obviously missed the best thing about Dirt which is the fantastic multiplayer. I gave GT5 a try myself and it;s truly pathetic. Just another cash in-Sony trying to flog a repainted GT 4 to PS 3 fans who have nothing better to play. The thing that makes Dirt the best game in the genre right now is that it's got it's priorities right.

It's focused on driving pleasure, variety, fun events, and most of all, multiplayer. GT 5 however is focused on having 1000 cars. But answer me this, how many of those 1000 cars are actualy worth driving? less than half. So that's 500 cars that shouldnt even be in it. Who gives a damn about 14 diferent versions of each meaningless compact anyway,

Fact is, from a hardcore racer's perspective Dirt is almost impsossible to top. It's got a short singleplayer focused around unlocking cars, then it entirely devotes to multiplayer, which is done damn well. It has far less tracks, and a mere 30 cars, but they're all actualy detailed and a lot of fun. What would you rather choose from? 500 used compacts and mid '80s failures? or a list of 30 of the best off road racing cars ever made?

Like I said, get your priorities right. There's choice and then there is fluff. And 1000 cars isnt impressive, it's disapointingly stupid. GT 5 feels like a game that the devs spent their entire work time doing graphics, cars, and tracks, then did gameplay over a lunchbreak. In Dirt 2, they spent the entire dev time asking important questions like "what happens if someone decides to cheat?" and "what happens if someone tries to grief?" and most importantly "ok, we've got a car game to make, so how can we make it fun online"

GT 5 is a failure. But Dirt 2 is racing game royalty and you're a fool if you cant see why. No other game is that balanced online, atleast not of this generation.

its all in the matter of quality of the game, I've always been a Gran Turismo fan and you can't change that, i really don't care what people think of my opinion that way.. woot disappointed wow who cares...

Its not a good idea to be Biased against a single game, you have to broaden your palate, Dirt only Caters to the off road racing style, """"""Gran Turismo caters to everything""""""""..

I don't understand you people for not liking it, it boggles my mind..
