VolkiharFiend
In the main quest where you first meet Paarthurnax he says that if Alduin were to be successful in devouring the world that the action could just be the beginning of a new one. I'm not sure if this is true or if it is just speculation on Paarthurnax's part but if it was true and the Dragonborn was unsuccessful, how do you think a new world would develop? How would the Et'Ada (Aedra and Daedra) involve themselves in such thing? These kind of questions I'm asking you.
notmyhome
The Elder Scrolls world takes place inside a dream of some ultimate being called the Godhead. Periodically, this dream ends and is replaced by a new one, which means the end for all mortal beings[*]. One such world-cycle is called a Kelpa. I'm quite sure it has been confirmed by developers that Alduin used to be the means by which those worlds were ended. The new world starts at the point of "time" where Lorkan's heart is ripped out. All Aedra and Daedra are present. [*] I've heard claims that the Redguards actually came from a previous Kelpa. Find it a little hard to believe though. Also Arkay ascended to Godhood in an earlier cycle, and remained part of the Pantheion.
VolkiharFiend
Haha I didn't even know anything about that. There's always another surprise in the lore of TES.
