PotatoFries
Ive got the disc version with shivering isles and knights of the nine, i'v finished the shivering isles quest and am now doing the main guilds, say i've been playing for 30 hours. Then from nowhere it crashes. And everytime i launch, it starts game and crashes within 2 seconds. Idk if disc is full or if another error but only "error" it comes up with is that oblivion.exe has crashed and windows is trying to fix it. I really would like to play my favourite childhood game through completely. Any suggestions? Here's my specs if it helps:------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 12/31/2014, 22:47:10 Machine name: PIE Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.140706-1506) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: ASUS System Model: All Series BIOS: BIOS Date: 01/28/14 15:22:09 Ver: 14.02 Processor: Intel® Core i5-4570 CPU @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz Memory: 8192MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 8130MB RAM Page File: 3179MB used, 13078MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent) System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 32bit Unicode

Maybe a script extender or helper program might do the trick?
Striker879
A working game doesn't turn into a non-working game without some sort of help. I imagine you have Windows set to auto-update whatever it feels is necessary, so that's one possibility. Another is something that was occurring in the game. I had an instance where when my Imperial Dragon armor was ready the game would crash. Thing is, there was no indication that the armor being ready was the problem ... I only deduced that after getting past the problem. In my case I had ample time to open the console and use the "coc center, wait" trick. If you truly have only a couple of seconds that may not be an option, depending on the actual cause of your problem. Have you tried starting a new game to see if the problem persists? PotatoFries
So when i start a new save the game runs fine, i had on old save where i took the first sigil stone and it was fine. But my best save which was 30 hours and lvl 9 was broken after 2 seconds of gameplay. I think it is because i have retail version (which requires disc to run and it has run out of memory on the DVD Rom). So i'd like to keep playing but at this point not much i can do, maybe steam version might work?
Striker879
Nah ... your DVD is read only ... that's not the problem. Have you been either quicksaving or overwriting your saves, or have you been saving into a new slot each time?
PotatoFries
Quicksaving mainly i have one other save which is about 20 hours and one autosave.
LFact
Quicksave, autosave, and overwriting save file constantly is known for corrupting your saved game. As for autosave, people often advise to turn off autosaving feature completely(some options are not found from in-game option, you need to edit Oblivion.ini to disable autosave) because of that. If you're going to use quicksave, use it, but after loading it, save the game in a new slot, then delete quicksave.
Striker879
Not a good plan in more than one way. First, quicksave is a known corrupter of save files. Second, you have absolutely no fall back position. Only use the save from the Esc menu or console named saves, and never overwrite a save ... always save to a new slot or for named saves your next sequential number (e.g MySave01.ess, MySave02.ess ... ). Autosave keeps one backup I think ... not sure about quicksave. Look in your Saves folder to see if you can find something like Quicksave.bak and rename a copy to HopeYouSaveMyBacon.ess (or something that won't get overwritten next time you quicksave ... if there is a next time you are that foolish). PotatoFries
So use saves and not quicksaves from now on? Seemed to work, i'll just have to replay the last 30 seconds or so but thanks seemed to work for now, if it crashes again then i'll let you know. I renamed the quicksvae.bak to savetest.ess and it worked.
