three questions

Hey there. I have some questions/problems to do with two of my saved games and the whole game in general. Help please?

#1: In one of my saved games my chara has loads of gold, right? What used to happen was that whenever she bought/sold/bribed, her gold didn't change. At all. The only way to gain/lose gold was to steal or drop it. Now, if she buys/sells/bribes all the gold goes away, even if it was a dinky 5 gold purchase. What's the deal??

#2: I have another saved game that apparently has a problem with leveling. I got my chara into a library, found many skillbooks. After going through every single book (and lots increased skills) he still had no points towards leveling up. Before this (and in my other games) reading that many books would've gotten at least a couple points.

#3: The Bretons have no bodies, only heads. I KNOW that didn't use to happen.

I'm guessing that these things might have something to do with a plugin or plugins I've downloaded, but I have no clue which one. If anyone can tell me what to do to fix this stuff I'd be really grateful. ^_^

1) No idea, probably mod conflict

2) Are they actually major/minor skills that you're increasing? Any other skills won't give you any progress towards leveling.

3) Definitely mod conflict. Probably you either had a mod installed that changed the bodies, then uninstalled it but your savegame kept the references to an object that no longer exists. Either that or you've got a mod that did something to the default models.

Unless you've got earlier savegames, isn't much you can do about it.

I don't think that everybody should attribute everything off that happens in a game to mod conflicts. That's just as bad as telling somebody to "keep defragging until it works" for every problem they have.

If you don't have the latest patch for Morrowind / Tribunal / Bloodmoon, then install it. If you have both expansions and you didn't install Morrowind first, then Tribunal, then Bloodmoon and the Bloodmoon patch, salvage your savegames and reinstall everything in that order.

For the first problem, you might try carrying no more than 35000 gold on you at all times and see if that helps. The Morrowind engine has a hard time dealing with inventory items that are in quantities over that amount.

As for the third problem, you might try seeing if the Breton head meshes are still in the right place. I don't have much experience with art files, so you may need to ask someone else where those files might be. If they have disappeared, you will need to retrieve them from the CS cd.

If you're up for reinstalling the game, it may be the best thing to do given the nature of your problems.

Mrr...you're right, of course. That was just my first guess. ::shrug::

Lessee, I have the Morrowind patch and Tribunal, have Bloodmoon but haven't installed it yet. Guess I should try all that.

As for the gold, I think I have less than that, but if not I'll drop some off somewhere.

And the art files....arg again. I'm practically CS illiterate. And I'd really rather not reinstall, but if worse comes to worst I guess I will.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions. ^_^

I have to agree with Marxist male without a father on most points here... those don't sound like plug-in conflicts to me, that sounds like a corrupted installation. I'd suggest a fresh install of MW, with appropriate patches. Backup your saved games first though, and try restoring them to your "Saves" folder afterwards.

Once you've got a freshly loaded, and patched, fileset, start a new game (don't even bother moving those saved game files yet). Play for a while with your new character, and install your plug-ins one at a time checking for idiosyncrasies along the way. If they crop up only after loading plug-in "X", un-plug it. If you get all your plug-ins loaded with no funky stuff going on, move your saved game files back into your "Saves" folder and see how it goes.

Important Point: If you try to put your saved game files (*.ess) back into your (now freshly installed) MW folder, you will find there is no "Saves" folder there. The Saves folder needs to be created by MW during game play . Trying to create that folder manually, and moving your save files there will not work either.

Corrupted installation? Just my luck. ~_~ That's prolly right...I just remembered that it's prone to freezing for a few seconds and the occasional crash. Just, that's a lot of stuff to do...::is a lazy bint:: Arrrg..anything for the game though, right? ^^;

Thankyou muchly. Shall try that.

It might be just your luck, but it might not. Just about everybody has had one of these problems occur, and you just have to deal with it. Morrowind is probably the greatest CRPG ever, and - in terms of video games - is the best since the mammoth epic that was Dragon Warrior 4. However, it is also one of the most buggery computer engines known to man.

Here's some technical stuff. Everybody's computer has problems with this game. If you've got a computer with less than a 2.0 GB processor, you're going to have occassional lag and CTD's (Crashes to Desktop) or complete system freezes. By occassional, I mean 'anytime you want to do anything at all.' Save often and go into the Technical Help forum for tips on what to do to eliminate the slowdowns.
