kvnchrist
I've heard much, lately about the bonding process between a mother and a new born infant and I was wondering what your thoughts were about a seperate area of jail or even house arest for women with new born infants to suckle their young. Should they have this, for the benifit of the childs rearing and could this interaction posibly make the mother less of a threat to the public, if they were a non-violent offender? JimboUK
That happens here, prisoners with children up to the age of 18 months are kept in what's known as a "Mother and Baby" unit, it is subject to an assessment though, anyone likely to cause problems in one of those units doesn't get a place and the child is taken away. Those early months are important when it comes to the development of the child, taking it away without good reason is punishing the child along with the mother.
