FrogDemon
I'm a Metal and Country fan and was wondering if there were any mods that will add Metal & Country stations to the game. I know that Metal would not be lore friendly, but I'm not worried about that. I have done a search and only found a Country Blues type station. Not really what I am after. I have also found 2 mods that change the Battle and Explorer music, which I have installed already. I am also not worried about copywright issues. Any music that these add I will purchase. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanx in advance,The Ancient Frog. Edit: I also know I could use iPip, but I don't want to listen to my own music, I would like to see someone make these if not already out, so I have some diversity. Neclipse
I'd recommend the groovatron mod - http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3284 . As a subpart of the mod it adds an MP3 player to the game with up to 40 customizable tracks. Then you can add your own music to the Music\GroovatronMP3 folder in your data files and rename your songs to track1.mp3, track2.mp3, etc up to 40 tracks. But due to the copyright issues radio mods and such can't upload copyrighted material, thus you need to purchase the music yourself and use the above mod. Hope this helps. evilneko
You may not be worried about copyright, but the nexus is. Your best bet is IPip or Groovatron with your own music. Aside from that, you're pretty much outta luck unless you can find verifiably legal free music to point a modder to, in which case, why not download it yourself and use IPip or Groovatron... FrogDemon
I understand all the copyright issues. We already have an addon for GnR that adds copyrighted music to the game: GNR 40s Tunes Ultimate Pack 1 , so why worry about it? I can go and purchase any music that is incorporated into it. But then again that particular modder went to the trouble of getting permission to use copyrighted material (from the copyright holder)
FrogDemon
No, they didn't get permission to use the music, they have just added the declaration that you NEED to purchase the music. I have it installed and upon installation it tells you to either purchase the music or delete it AFTER 24hrs. So I see no problem for someone to make a real Metal or Country station as long as they add in the declaration. A Terms of Usage if you will. evilneko
The music contained in that mod could very well be no longer under copyright protection. As well, nowhere in copyright law does the time you possessed it enter into it, that "24 hour" thing is simply untrue. If there is active copyright on any of the songs in that mod, the author and nexus can be held liable for infringement. All of the music in that mod was over 28 years old in 1992, meaning that the copyrights did not get automatic renewal at the 28th year as required at the time. Renewal dates would've ranged from 1968 to 1985, and the online catalog only goes back to 1978, making it difficult to verify. If the copyright on any of the songs was renewed it'd still be in copyright. Nexus would be obliged to remove it. Only works prior to 1923 are absolutely for certain in the public domain. I don't think you'll find much metal there though. ;) I've been googling in between spates of writing on this post, and it appears that RCA still owns the copyright for the 1957 Bing Crosby recording of "Dream a Little Dream of Me," which means that unfortunately, the mod (or at least the song) should be removed. So I say again: you're kinda stuck. You must use your own music. Your only legal options are that or royalty-free music provided freely by (in general) indy musicians, or stuff prior to 1923. buddah
Well it has finally happened, here is the us law in a concise and understandable version on copyright: By law under US copyright all music recorded after Before February 15, 1972, sound recordings weren’t protected by federal copyright law. They were protected by state law, which means that they were protected indefinitely. Once Congress extended federal copyright protection to sound recordings, they chose Feb. 15, 2047 as the date those recordings would enter the public domain (a term of 75 years). But thanks to the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, that term has been extended to Feb. 15, 2067. What about sound recordings made on or after Feb. 15, 1972? Sound recordings published on or after Feb. 15, 1972 and before January 1, 1978 will be protected by copyright for 95 years from publication date. So the earliest date any of these could enter the public domain is January 1, 2068. And unpublished sound recordings? They will continue to be protected by state law. ... and sound recordings made on or after Jan. 1, 1978? Ditto. Sound recordings made or published on or after January 1, 1978 will be protected by copyright for 95 years from publication date. So this might have a very wide sweep of copyright protected recordings.
