Sleeping n' Dreaming

Recently BlueDanube and I were talking about dreams after he said "sweet dreams." BD claimed he was "too busy" to make such a topic on the subject so here I am.

We spend a good portion of our life sleeping. Basically, one can simply say we do for almost half of the day. So, care to share any dreams you've had in your sleep and remember? I do realize dreams are often a recollection of the day's events and can be personal; you be the judge on how much to share. Funny, scary or just plain weird, it'd be cool to hear some.

Here's one I vividly remember (TC should at least contribute, right?) This one is a combination of first and third person...possibly.

--- copy paste from a PM ---

Once had a dream where I was looking through the eyes of some excavation team inside some dark cave. The cave was very big and had water dripping from the ceiling; light was shining through certain, small cracks and was very deep. I climb down some ladder going into the cave, like one might do going down a manhole. I saw a lab table straight ahead and a bunch of crazy chemicals and tools I had never seen before. To the right was a dead end. To the left was a long tunnel. I look down the tunnel as I hear the chatter of other excavators and I see lots and lots of blood-strewn corpses. There are more lab tables farther down.

Then I switch perspective.

Suddenly I'm looking from behind a rock on the dead end side. I see a strange male figure escorting some weirdo dark angel girl who looks pretty beat up. And they are walking down deeper into the cave, away from the lab table I saw.

Then after that I'm in someone else's shoes. Again. Suddenly I'm a scientist in the lab...or something. I see the dark angel girl again on the ground and I rush over, but she dies as I get there. There is purple blood, which I thought was kinda cool and creepy.

Flash again. I'm working with three other people at the lab table. But they look and sound like my parents and my younger brother. There is a bright glowing yellow/orange object in the middle of the table. It is spherical and levitating but has some 6 digit code. We are apparently looking for the code and trying out what the hell it is. Then I look at my hand and I see the purple blood from the dark angel girl and then suddenly a ton of thoughts start coursing through me. I then see what I already saw from the dead end / escort scene again and I also see it from the girls perspective. There are lots of flashes of color and light but I also see some sort of strange code. Not binary code or anything, but just some random slur of numbers. (I actually wrote it down when I woke up, hopefully trying to figure out WTF was going on with me but never really found out.) But that slur of numbers was 6 digits. So then I exclaimed that I thought I had found something and tried to put that weird code in.

Turns out the code did something after all. The orb starts shining brighter and brighter to the point where it starts shaking violently. The cave begins to collapse and things are getting freaky. Lots of screaming, yelling. Then for some reason, it hits me that this thing is going to explode and kill all of us if someone doesn't touch it and take his/her own life. So I grab it and start running to the ladder. The rumbling of the cave stops. But then I look at my own hands to see that the orb is gone and my flesh starts melting away, revealing some bright light inside. (It looked kind of like Agent Smith from the end of the Matrix when Neo blows him up by going inside him.) So I'm yelling at that point and as the light engulfs me, I wake up in a sweat.

That dream was like...in the summer time? I've had lots of other weird dreams too. I tend to remember all my dreams crystal clear and thats one of them.

My dreams usually make very little sense and seem almost completely random. One moment I'm in a forest, the other in the middle of a town on fire. Probably as soon as I'm reminded of something else, it switches subject. I can never remember any of them as specific as above post though, just vague pieces.

There are some things common in all my dreams though, such as:

  • I can never feel wind blowing (only the effect of it, being pulled or pushed)
  • If I have some weapon, I can only swing it very slowly
  • As soon as I think I'm being followed, I am (not before the thought occurs)

Can't think of anything else right now, but there's a pretty fixed list of stuff that's always the same :P

My dreams are often magical fantasy adventure type affairs (I play too many computer games!) Unfortunately, I mostly don't remember them very long. A couple that I can vaguely remember were a) myself and my family trapped in my childhood home whilst trying to prevent the ingress of zombies carrying bioengineered plague, and b) myself and a bunch of childhood school friends adventuring in a mystical maze, much waving of swords and casting of spells. Interestingly, in my dreams I am often accompanied by people who look nothing like they do in real life, but I know it's them anyway. Myself included! Oh, and there'll normally be at least one "love scene" (lol), often not with my hubby, though I wouldn't even consider of cheating on him for real.

The oddest one I can remember however, is that my hubby and I had gone to the supermarket. Nothing odd there, untill you add in the fact that we were both bi-pedal crocodiles and we were shopping for baby bacon. Yes, bacon made from babies! And, no, I'm not a raging cannibal, lol.

One thing I find odd about dreaming is that I am often able to think (during the dream) "no, I don't like that, let's do that bit again" and can re-take my dream to my own specs. It's like I'm still awake, even though I'm dreaming. Makes for some kick-ass dreams, though I still tend to forget them!

Sounds familiar! I'm guessing the mind only takes note of some details of human faces and in dreams it just kinda guesses the rest. Apparently enough to know who you're dealing with :P

I experience the same, but it's tricky to accomplish. I have to realize I'm dreaming and know how to influence the dream just enough to change it course. Once I push it too far I just wake up. I can imagine the better you get at it, the more your dreams can become the coolest games / movies ever :P
