yeah, sort of. It is rather circumstantial to the actual model in question, and could be a bit of a rigging head ache. The best solution imo is how the mesh is modelled rather than working around it during rigging, but then these situations just can't really be avoided sometimes. There isn't an easy way except spending time studying the rigging and mesh of something that works in this regard and is close to your mesh. And then spending time tweaking the rigging on your mesh until you are satisfied or give up and just go with it.
