  1. 1. Would you use a mobile version of the Nexus Forums?

For instance, I can login but the little popup box the login control is in doesn't always render in a place I can easily get at it. That's a feature that's really cool on a computer, but just doesn't work well on a mobile.

True, it's a little fixture that makes sure it'll be centered of the screen. It doesn't see that you've zoomed in and thus it'll still try to get to the center. But that's only with the pop-up login. The regular login should work fine :) (took me a few tries before my password and ok-click worked.)

It's the difficulty to support every single phone. You'd at least need 3 versions, thus themes...which makes it not an easy job to do. As if you're using a different browser (or browser that's standard with your phone.), then there infinite numbers of differences of support. The only thing possible would be to make a few comforts, like a page that logins more easily.

What I'm waiting for is firefox on mobile, as that one might support addons/changes you can add without having to force a site to do it :). but rather something like greasemonkey.

How do you get to the regular static login then?

I can't find a link, only the popup version.

Cross-browser support is a pain, but it's not that hard (unless you're optimizing for IE). Javascript, HTML, and CSS better be supported if you try and call something a browser. If you need a different website for each browser, quite simply, you're doing a bad job. The current site doesn't need three versions. And it renders fairly well, apparently, on all of our different mobiles.

I don't mean implementing every feature though. That would just be unnecessary. Making and reading posts, primarily.

If you view Facebook, Google, or Twitter on your phone you can easily see the huge difference between using a mobile website and a standard one. Those work well across most browsers and don't have additional sites for each browser.

Hm, I used to be able to login more easily by opening a new tab on the "sign in" on my mobile :(.. but it'll give a server error. Maybe something changed...I have the password/username saved so I don't have to enter it that often lately :P. It sill seems to work on my PC however, apparently it doesn't support it on the mobile anymore :(. It's probably some security enhancement since the large or the smaller forum update that forbids it.

Nexus forums (ip.Board) does have a mobile version.

I don't get that or the option to switch to it, the full site comes up on both my Blackberry and HTC Desire.

It's because there's an app for the iPhone that displays all IPB forums like that. Try looking through the app sites for your phones for an IPB app.
