Just a few questions

Ok my other Oblivion junkie friend has encountered some issues that I never have.

Most all the names of objects like doors, chests, etc. are all in German. I thought that he had accidentally installed a german version of some mod, but he said that he had not. Is there anything that I could tell him to try that might fix the problem? Or will he just have to deal with it?

Also, he started the Vampire Cure quest (which I told him was very buggy) and he got to the part where he has to go to a cave and kill that ancient vampire for his dust and so on....One problem. His quest marker is flying all over the place and he said that there is no cave anywhere near where the quest marker is. So I did not know what to tell him there. Is there anything that could cause that, or is it just the buggy cure quest? I tried to tell him to try a different quest just to see if the same thing happened; well the other quests didn't even have quest markers lol

If anyone knows anything about these problems and also knows how to fix them, then please tell me!

Thanks to all,

well, as far as i know, the only way he could have writings in German, is if a mod he had installed is in German

so tell him to check again, because this is the only explanation i know of

and about the quest marker, it happens sometimes

can't really say why, but it does happen

just look HERE

in the upper left of the page, there is a "view on map" button

just tell your friend where the cave is, and tell him to try and finish the quest without that marker

hope this helps :)

Ok thanks!

I tried to remember the name of the cave because I have done the quest before, but I could not remember for the life of me.

Well I told him the samething about his objects being in German. But oh well. And the whole mapmarker thing was unheard of for me. So I just did not know what to tell him.

But thanks a lot! :woot:

If he is absolutely sure he hasn't installed the German (DE) version of a mod he may have installed the German version of the patch. Or done something really dumb and downloaded a torrented version of the game with the German already in it- if so who knows what other problems he really got.

Most German mods include a DE as part of the name. Usually like 'Modname de' for the German version and 'Modname en' for the English version (if there is one). If you don't know, the German word for German is Deutch therefore, de.

If it is a German mod, you can uninstall the mod - NOT just uncheck it, go in and remove all of the meshes and textures as well, and remove the esp or esm from the data folder.

If he has installed the German version of the patch, he MUST reinstall the game to fix it as the patch is embedded in the Oblivion.exe and Oblivion.esm files and cannot be removed.

If he has a bogus torrented game, then he got what he paid for. Don't be so cheap, buy the game. We do not support pirated games.

There are some mods which were originally in German that now have English translations - BUT, some of the things in the English translated mod DID NOT get translated or are "dirty edits' from a German version of Oblivion. Artefacts of the Ancestors is one that I know of having this annoyance.

Have your friend go to someplace where a German named thing is and do a save there. Then go up the list of his mods to uncheck it, and then start at the save game to see if the German named thing is still German named. If it is, exit, recheck the mod that you unchecked and go to the next one. This will tell your friend which mod is the culprit.
