I have a question about setting up folders to mod

Ok to start I'm starting my own mod from scratch, like starting with new worldspace.

So when I install NV and I extract all the meshes and textures into folders do I extract the DLC ones and put into same folder as meshes or textures so everything is all together or should I pick out the meshes and texs I want from the DLC's or put them into there own folders?

And there are 2 texture files, when I extract them should I put them into one texture folder or do they need to be separate? I mixed them and some replaced each other so did I mess up something?

I don't understand what you are doing.

If you are using assets from the game and the dlc, just use it in the GECK. You don't need to extract it. If you are modifying assets from the game, then you can extract them to your own folder and modify them there. You can generally put meshes and textures wherever you like, but if you want to make it easier on people who use your mod and maybe delete it later, it helps to put all of the meshes in a folder under meshes that has the same name as the mod or is otherwise easily identifiable. Same for the textures. In other words, if your mod is named MyMod.esp then put your modified and newly created meshes in \data\meshes\MyMod and put your modified and newly created textures in data\textures\MyMod.

If you just want to extract assets from the game, then many assets will have the same name, and if you don't preserve the directory structure when you unpack the BSAs then you'll end up overwriting files.

I don't know if you are new to modding or not. Your questions make me think that you are. Try something simpler before creating a whole new worldspace. Creating a worldspace is one of the buggiest, most un-intuitive, and difficult things to do in the GECK.

No deff not new, made plenty of Worldspaces. I modded FO3 and FNV then both for TTW. I just never thought about it when I modded. But now I'm trying to be neat and clean with it and was wondering about the folders. When I mod I extract the bsa. files into folders so I have all the items right there.

I been out of modding for awhile so I'm coming back basically new again.

There are 2 Texture BSA files. Should I extract both and put into 1 Texture folder so I have them all together? Or should I have a Texture 1 folder and Texture 2 folder and extract them in the right ones?

Then for DLC's, the BSA files come with Meshes/Textures, should I put them into the same Mesh/Texture folders as the other ones or put into separate folder strictly for DLC stuff?

I watched a video online where dude doesn't extract the whole BSA, he just extracted one file he was working on at a time and put it into a folder. Seems the easiest so far. And for DLC's I just extracted all of them into there own folders and I'm going to go through them and pick apart what I want and don't want and then add them in as items later. But thanks for the help everyone
