Game not loading at all

I'll recount what I did to install OOO.

- Downloaded OOO 1.3.exe and 1.31.exe

- Ran the .exe for 1.3, then 1.31

- ...that's about it. Should it have put an .esm in as well?

 

I think I've narrowed it down to Open Cities and MMM. If any .esp from either of those two mods is active, it won't start.

 

My GPU is...a little embarassing these days, but it can still run Oblivion just fine. GeForce GT 220.

 

Just ran it through BOSS again (I've done it before, but everyone else seemed to disagree with the order it put them in, so I rearranged it), here's something I forgot to mention: It says that it didn't detect OOO. It recognises and reorders everything else, but it always sticks OOO at the bottom.

 

since you are using the UOP and the USIP is there any particular reason you are not using the Unofficial Official Mods patch (knights ain't patched)

Yes, yes there is. And that reason is...I forgot about it. I'll download it now.

Those are all the mods that I want to get working. I haven't touched this order after running BOSS.

Yeah, BOSS just put it there.

 

After I posted my last reply, I downloaded the OOO 1.32 update (installer version). When I ran that, it put the .esm in, and...it's running now. I'm going to start a new game and play for a while, and see how it goes.

 

EDIT: We're not allowed to swear on here, are we? It now crashes at the loading screen. I'm going to disable the ones that Wrye Bash highlights red, see what happens.

 

SECOND EDIT: The mods that are highlighted red are Mart's Monster Mod for OOO.esp, and Mart's Monster Mod - Friendlier Factions OOO+FCOM.esp. This makes no sense to me because I've got both of the master files right there. But MMM is an old version, I've just realised, so I'm downloading the latest update now.

Those two OOO-reliant MMM mods still think that it's not there, and it still crashes at the loading screen (even if I disable those two).

 

I just checked. It crashes at the loading screen no matter what I've got running now. Even just Vanilla Oblivion. Meaning that I may have solved the mods problem, and now I have an entirely new one.

Make sure that you don't have 'Lock Files' selected in Wrye Bash, because BOSS is not reordering your mods correctly -- MMM is loading AFTER your Bashed Patch.

It's starting to sound like you have some kind of corruption going on there.

 

I would recommend backing up your saves, mods, and settings, then setting them aside for a moment. Do a completely clean reinstall of Oblivion, SI, official DLC, and official patches. Then see if the game will run alright after that, or if it still crashes. If the game does run without any problems at that point, then I would recommend installing your mods one at a time from there.

 

Start with the major mods like OOO, and see if it still runs without a hitch. If it does, then install another large mod like MMM and see if there's any problem. If there isn't, then go on to another large mod like Open Cities, and so on. Keep installing your mods one at a time, and checking the stability of the game after each installation, until either you have them all installed and things are working fine, or until you start having problems again.

I just checked, and BOSS isn't recognising OOO, Oblivion XP, or those MMM files that are being placed at the end. I don't know what the hell's going on with it.

Oh wait, yes I do. Okay, I've fixed that. New load order (which I had to rearrange myself anyway, because it was still placing some MMM things last, and doing stupid stuff like putting the SI unofficial patch AFTER SI itself):

Okay, I'll start doing that. I suppose if I'd tried a phased conversion to start with instead of this direct cut-over, I wouldn't have had all these problems. Thanks.

 

 

EDIT: Okay, now I'm back to my original problem (sort of). Rather than not starting, like it did before, it actually crashes without loading. Meaning that it flashes black a couple of times, then I get the 'Oblivion has stopped working' dialogue. This happens even if I run any combination of Vanilla Oblivion, the DLCs, or any unofficial patches.

 

SECOND EDIT: I've got it running with the DLC, unofficial patches, OOO, and Open Cities. I'm content with that. Thanks for all your help.
