Communism

Hello Nexus!

Have ever heard of the Cope ASDAN course? Its new, and I'm taking it at school. I'm also currently writing an essay on this topic and I'm interested in finding other peoples views. Please note I'm not a Communist! This topic is purely out of my own interest and academic reasons, thankyou!

Most likely people will disagree with communism being right at all, but I just wan't to get it out and see what other people think! I'm really interested! Being a Fallout 3 fan, communism being one of the themes, it peaked some curiosity. One of my friends, shan't name him, claims to have communist beliefs. He says that it was a better idea when controlled by the right hands, he also researched quite a bit about it. He had lent me one of his books on "Marxism", a form of socialism, named "Marxism: A Graphic Guide" (http://www.introducingbooks.com/book/view/marxism). So, I begin to think, is communism actually such a bad thing? I mean, its a good idea but it seems to be easily manipulated.

After tedious research I thought I would getter better results If I asked the common public, so here I am! Please post what you think! Anything will be appreciated!

Regards

I agree with Balagor, if you follow the two links that he gave you, you will find a great deal of discussion and debate has already taken place on this subject. You should be able to find most of the information for which you are looking,. Good luck with your research.

That's the crux of the problem. It is far too easy to abuse and pervert communism.

Maybe if we were as perfect at Gene Roddenberry made us out to be in the 24th century, communism would work out. In reality? Not gonna happen.

Ahh, communism:

Im not a communist, Im a darwinist.

It's got a lot going for it, but at this stage, it just cant work.

Greed and corruption rule it out-you see when you make everything available to everyone then some people will play by the rule, and some will be evil little monster and will attempt to subvert it to advance themselves at the cost of others.

It's like a Halo sniperfight: Everyone starts out with the Sniper Rifle and the .45 magnum. The are both perfect for the job at hand. If you follow the rules, you'll be fine since both guns are in tandem, perfect for this mode. But there is always someone who isnt content with having an equal chance and will try and force everyone else's score down by grabbing an alien Flak Cannon and blowing the bejesus out of his own team.

But if communism could work, it would be every bit the eutopian ideal that it's made out to be.

We can’t look in the future like the prophets of old; even the weather forecast for tomorrow is often more than just shaky. We can express our hopes for and fears of the future though. And we know that man cannot resist the animal magnetism of a repetition of old stuff in slightly modified packing, doubtlessly because of a crippled educability and this all too often already after just a single generation. Anyway, at least for now communism is as dead as a dodo (even if a few mummified dodos haven't yet realized the facts). But that's all we know for sure, I guess.

I will tell you what communism was for my country:

-People had money, but there was nothing to buy with them, no chocolate, no coffe(wich was a luxury around here 20 years ago), no cooking oil and the list goes on and on

-You had to wait in line in order to buy products such as bread, milk, sugar, for hours...

-You had no freedom of speech, at all

-You where bound to one place, without beeing allowed to move even to another town, without reporting first

-People houses where turn apart and blocks took thier place with small crowded apartaments for the workers.

-At school all you learned was that Ceausescu(the communist leader we had) is amazing, he is God himself etc.

-People used to dissapear without a trace

-All educated people where jailed for their ideas and for voicing their opinions

-While the country was one of the biggest food exporters in Europe, with our national money having the same value as the dolar had at that time we only produced for export, while the people where starving becouse of the lack of food. My family was lucky enough becouse they lived in the country area and not in towns where it was realy bad.

-In half a century the communists built factories and blocks all over the major cities in our country. They developed a huge metalurigic industry on the back of the starving people, at least durring the last years of communism.

This is just a short representation, from a person that lives in an ex-communist coutry.

I don't blame communists, becouse durring that period at least most people had a decent job and in the first years there was enough food and stuff for everyone. They screwed up in the last 5 to 10 years, from 1980 to 1990.

I won't even bother to talk about the current gouvernament, it ain't even worth it.

As a side note, I an impressed of what China has become lately. They used to envy us(the other communist countries 20 years ago), now when I see thier cities and what they've done and built I'm stunned. They still have poor people and less civilized areas, but at least thier middle class earns a lot more than us now.

Cheers,

Pushkatu!

Brilliant and succinct exposition of the workings of communism, thank you Pushkatu.
