This may sound stupid, but I can't find the Data Files folder for New Vegas! When I installed the game I wasn't given the option of where i wanted it and now I can't find the game files. Any insights as to where they may be hidden? I tried a search for New Vegas and Fallout and checked my Bethesda Softworks folder but no luck. There aren't many mods ready for DL yet but there will be and I will want to use at least a few. Some help would be most appreciated.

Steam shoves all the game files way back.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas

That's where they should be by default on Windows 7.

Can anyone tell me where the data files are located on a windows vista system???

Did you try looking? Steam will, by default, place all files in the same location. Yours should be in a similar place as the Windows 7 files.

If my nightmares of Vista are still in good shape, you should have the same path, just minus the "(x86)" part of the file path. I think Steam just installs to the C:/Program Files/Steam type of folder. Just go in and look around your program files and see if you can dig anything up.

Also, when searching your system, make sure to search for short phrases. Instead of searching for "New Vegas" or "Fallout New Vegas", just search for "Vegas". Sometimes file names are truncated or the search might not pick them up if the writers didn't put a space or underscore between the words. ;)

I use vista, the filepath is the same as the one above for 7:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas\Data

If you're running on a 32 bit system, the (x86) may not be there.

I have Win8,and I cannot find my data files ANYWHERE ON MY PC! Aaaah!

I've tried the Steam, apps, common, etc, but nope.I tried Bethesda's file as well, but nope. Not anywhere on my PC. I did a PC search to try and see where it might be hiding,..nope.

All I can find is my Fallout 3 Data files. I am lost as to what to do.

Responded to your post in the "how to install mods to new vegas" thread.

Please note the date of the previous post, and see the Nexus "Terms of Service" about not resurrecting old threads. The primary reason is that the original thread participants are seldom still around, and it is unlikely that you have exactly the same setup. Details matter.

In this instance you had me going "WTF? I just answered this not two minutes ago!"

Follow this explicitly ...

\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas

It is easy to mess that up with navigating the Steam directory :/

You can also try this:

  1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
  2. Select View > Options > Change folder and search options.
  3. Select the View tab and, in Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK.

Then you can search the files, now search for files like:

*.esm

*.esp

*.fos

It would be able in Windows 10 and lower.
