First Impressions?

Well, I like what I see so far, for the most part. The atmosphere is thick, reminiscient of the first two Fallouts. Things seem a little empty, though even more so than Fallout 3. But I guess it is a wasteland... I'll have fun filling in empty buildings in GECK.

But disappointed with how ugly things can get. Even on the best LOD/distance settings possible, things can get pretty twitchy and frumpy from time to time. Made things look a little better by going into GECK and adding some fog to most of the weather types.

There's a whole damn lotta loot. Every gangster I've killed has like two different guns and a bunch of different bullets and items on him. I came across a shack and looted about a thousand caps' worth of stuff.

One of the first things I noticed is lack of the Fallout 3 Stutter Remover... Though the stutter seems to have calmed for the most part since I left the Doc's house. Otherwise, the performance is fine except for when moving to a new general area.

In terms of gameplay, I found that the Damage Threshold system makes things very different compared to Fallout 3: I got into a fight with an NPC in a small indoor space, and thanks to my special armor from the Caravan pack with 8 DT, his 9mm pistol did tiny amounts of damage to me. I was stumped at first, until I remembered the inclusion of DT in this game.

Aiming down sights is awesome, and the new killcams are pretty neat too, especially once I learned they are skippable (for the boring, uneventful kills).

Last but not least, I really like the whole "western" theme. Not only does it bring back elements of the first two games that were lost in Fallout 3, but the whole old west setting is one of my favorites.

And thank you for allowing me this spot in your thread, heh. This is my second ever post here on The Nexus Forums. Nice to meet you!

hehe not many first impressions yet since most who were lucky to get the game early are busy playing it like moi. However as I take a small break and browse these forums I will say that I love the new soundtracks, particularly the juke boxes.

Playing vanilla New Vegas in hardcore mode. I guess your companions face perma death in hardcore mode, ouch! I will have to be extra careful.

I'm pretty sure it's by pressing whatever you have the "Activate" button mapped to.

Well, after roaming south (primm and beyond) and doing a few quests, I leveled up a bit, killed a fair share of both bandits and giant bugs, so I thought "What's Vegas like?" I am playing on hardcore mode for my first run through, btw.

After getting mauled to death by radscorpions, I realized that this game puts a HUGE emphasis on Unforgiving in The Unforgiving Wasteland. I also realized that stealth is awesome. And Deathclaws kill level 5's in two hits. So, two deaths. So, I went around. I jumped this fence to what looked like an old test bombing field. Overrun by those small scorpions, which are easy kills. Then, moving farther, found an area full of Evolved Centaurs. Which are hellishly hard to kill. So I ran, hopped a fence, and found myself at Black Mountain (or something like that) Which is a Super Mutant settlement. After being hinted to stay a way by one, I tried to pass through by going through this canyon, which was full of radiation. And I almost made it out, when a random centaur caught wind of me. Which brought a super mutant over. As I struggled to kill it, the OTHER super mutant that told me to get away came by. And throwing my dynamite, I accidentally hit him. He pulled out a sledgehammer, and beat me down.

I love the iron sights, the crafting of ammunition, the complete overhaul of the game. I've already plugged in a few mods, like FOOK and Type 3 body replacer. Nothing big. This game is an incredible challenge on hardcore, no idea what it's like on the regular dificulty. Also, finding food and water isn't as much of a challenge as I hoped it to be. A bit of a disapointment. I hope someone makes a mod to make it harder. ( I have zero experience modding, so I don't want to break something) If someone gets to Vegas without taking the easy way around Primm, kudos. It's hard as hell.

btw, I think it was worth my 50 bucks.

And yes, this was just a first impression. I like going into detail.

FONV ROCKS :nuke: !!!!!

If you haven't bought yet check out your Local 'BestBuy' as I called this morning close to noon to see if any PC Versions were left in store? The Guy came back and said he had 1 regular edition and a Collectors Editions, you know what I put on Hold for pickup! The Collectors Edtion gear is Great but haven't opened the deck of cards, Making of DVD or the pack of Casino Chips because I have been Playing the Heck out of FONV for ELEVEN (11) Hours straight!!!! I even forgot all about eating dinner, I was that engrossed in playing.!

The Weapons are awesome and when using right mouse button, the sights are very realistic looking like looking down for real. The Pistols have night sights which is cool to have!

Thanks Nexus for being there for all us Gamers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
