glowplug
After many months and thousands of hours of my time my mod, The Isles of Silatari, which is fairly extensive is being ignored.Would somebody please tell me why?
AlienSlof
Have you made sure the file is not set hidden? Easy mistake to make.
glowplug
Have you made sure the file is not set hidden? Easy mistake to make. Thanks for that but no, it's not hidden. Having only just uploaded this version I'm being far too impatient but I just feel it's going to be like the last versions.A lot of downloads but almost no feedback. If what I am doing is not good enough then I need to know NOW before I get too far into Part II which is the biggest part of this story!
Ferryt
Couple of points ... First of all, a lot of people are going to be hesitant to committing to a WIP for fear that it will never be finished. We've seen it happen, before. Secondly, you had a question from one of your users about this back in August and never responded -- a signal that a mod might have been abandoned. I've actually been watching your mod ... waiting until a version comes out that can be considered "complete" before downloading it. Keep in mind that a lot of people will download stuff and then never install it for some reason or another. I know I have a pretty large collection of such mods. If I haven't played it then I have no right to post in a comment thread about it. Could be that's the case with your ~25 downloads and ~10 comments (and probably about half of those are your own). Is one comment out of every five "bad"? I don't know. Is twenty five downloads for a mod of this scope bad? Yes, but, again, that might be reflected by the fact that it's not "finished", yet. Eiries
Advertisement is a plus too. Post screens to the imageshare occasionally. Get the name out. Right now, "Silatari" rings no bell to me, and I spend an awful lot of time here. Maybe make a WIP thread in the Mod Talk section, just make sure you're willing to update it somewhat frequently. Presentation is important too. If you have trouble taking screenshots due to computer limitations, talk to one of your beta testers about it or something. Reading the description, I'm still not sure what it is. A large scale landmass/quest mod from the looks of it, but you should flesh out the description a bit more. What's actually done? How many completely quests are there? How do you even get to theses places? Even if it's mentioned in the readme, it's good to flesh out a mod as much as possible in the description so the user knows exactly what they're downloading before they do so. I've bookmarked it in the meantime and may check it out if I can find the time to.
glowplug
Thanks for the advice Eiries These are issues I have been quite confused about.Looking at successful quest mods I have noticed a lack of pictures and very short descriptions.I gained the impression that the less said/shown the better - don't spoil it for people.Plus in my experience with software development people generally won't read anything longer than a short sentence or two - the bain of my existance until I retired from it! I suspect that there are a lot less people playing Oblivion than when other mods gained momentum. So, like you say I need to promote my mod. When you say imageshare do you mean the image tab of my mod page?I had 22 pictures there previously. I can put stacks up now if it will help. Oooh noo, I just remembered I have not updated the online README!
Eiries
Hehe... I see you've put a few on the imageshare since then. If I do end up finding the time to check it out, I'll PM you with any screenshooting goodies I may come up with. Your descriptive checklist is a lot better now. Here's to hoping for a bright future for this one!
glowplug
Thanks Eiries, it's 4:30am here and I am trying to write a WIP request for mod talk - maybe I should just go to bed.
PseronWyrd
Create a thread on the official forums. Many mod users visit only that forum. The only reason I'm here is because an email sent me here on another matter and I happened to see this by chance. Frankly, I've never heard of your mod either. Chances are, I might have heard about your mod if there had been a WIPZ or RELZ thread about it on the official forums.
