Vagrant0
Is FOSE compatible with New Vegas or are we still waiting for a NVSE?Since FOSE requires editing of the .exe, it won't work with NV, and may initially have some issues with steam. The game has just recently been released, these kinds of things WILL happen, just be patient.
Alasyre
The word is that Valve contacted the creators of OBSE and FOSE so that Steam-compatible versions would be available, so maybe it'll be sooner than we expect.
ilDuderoni
Wow, that baffles me. Valve seems to be surprising me a lot lately with their insight and tech. Why not go all the way? Implement the new FOSE/NVSE script commands (if I understand right what FOSE does) to (semi?) official patches.Come to think of it, does anyone know if Obsidian botherred to take a look at FOSE and maybe implement some of the scripts or whatever in NV? Just curious.

Is there any reason -not- to have FOSE as a basic component?

Is there any reason -not- to have FOSE as a basic component? Well, *Valve* wouldn't be making anything exclusively for F:NV, period. Obsidian would have to be the ones doing what you suggest, which wouldn't have been a bad idea. My information is probably fourth-hand, anyway. I can't speak to it's trustworthiness. It would make sense, though, given the trouble FOSE had with GFWL coupled with its phenomenal success.
eleglas
I guess Betheseda/Obsidian due take notice of mods, like FO3's Weapon Mod Kit was the inspiration of the weapon modding in NV; I do hope they make an Official NVSE, that would be epic. gsmanners
I guess Betheseda/Obsidian due take notice of mods, like FO3's Weapon Mod Kit was the inspiration of the weapon modding in NV; I do hope they make an Official NVSE, that would be epic. If they do make an official NVSE, it will have to be a clean-room implementation. Otherwise, they will be legally obligated (because of copyright law) to obtain permission from the authors of NVSE (Ian Patterson, Stephen Abel and Paul Connelly). I don't know of any license, so I'm guessing the authors will want to keep the code open source. If that wish is not respected, there may be legal ramifications. I'm not a lawyer, so that's just an educated guess. My understanding is that Stephen Abel has been in contact with Valve and that Valve has provided him with the standard wrapper code for Steam-protection (i.e. encryption) of the binaries. If there's a problem, it would most likely be getting the proper permissions from the other authors to deploy the code the way Valve undoubtedly wants it to be (closed source).
