The Captial Wasteland in FONV

Well so far it's been a walk in the park getting the esm to load in-game. I'm just going to get rid of Fo3's starting scripts for testing purposes right now...

- I noticed the load screens too. I think it would be easier for users if I just replace them with working ones for now (rather than having to explain how to get rid of certain files).

- The weapons are gonna be tricky, though. They models would need to be changed and... I think ammo has to be sorted out too. In fact, figuring out a way to get repair lists and all that miscellaneous junk that's basically the same in both nv and fo3 but has different formIDs is gonna be some work. Do-able though.

- I also have no idea how the script extender will eventually playing into this.

- Never had much luck with LOD on my own, but I realize what you're saying.

I need to wander around the DC wastes and mess with things, then I'll get a full list of things that need to change to get it to "work".

You wouldnt want to be able to play the main quest?

Iunno. I think that there, if possible, should be two versions. One which starts you out in the capitol wasteland with the main quest and the dialogue about you being a wanderer, and you can travel to New Vegas. And being able to start as the courier o New Vegas with that main quest, and being able to go to the Capitol wasteland. It would probably be a bit tricky though.

Morroblivion was jumped on by Bethesda because it took the assets from one of their games and put them in another, exactly what this is doing. Go and suggest this on Beths forums and see how long the thread lasts. It's not illegal but Bethesda really don't like people doing this sort of thing.

Well right now I'm trying to compare so I can get rid of any fallout 3 data that crashes new vegas. So for example menu and interface stuff. Only when I can actually get into the DC wasteland can I get the empirical 'list of things to get it working with NV'.

Gonna be a mix of a massive patch as well as players needing to go through and sort out certain things on their own.

EDIT: Actually I figured It'd be nice of me to put a quick walkthrough of how to test this out yourselves:

1. You need FOMM, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas and about 5 minutes.

2. Open 2 explorer windows and browse to your Fallout 3/Data directories and Fallout New Vegas/Data directories.

3. Copy the following files from Fallout 3/Data to a temporary folder: Fallout.esm, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - MenuVoices.bsa (DONT COPY Fallout - Misc.bsa)

4. Rename these BSA files so they wont over-write the New Vegas BSAs (e.g. Fallout - Meshes.bsa to F3Meshes.bsa)

5. Once renamed, move these files into your Fallout New Vegas/Data folder.

6. In your Documents folder (My Documents, for XP users), browse to My Games/Fallout NV and open up FalloutPrefs.INI in notepad or notepad++

7. Hit ctrl+F and search for 'SArchiveList'

8. On this line, add the bsa files you just copied into your New Vegas data directory. Then save and exit. (note, also do this for Fallout.ini in the same folder)

8. in your Fallout New Vegas/Data folder, open Fallout - Meshes.bsa with FOMM. (Double click on it and if prompted, select or browse to FOMM.exe in your fallout 3/fomm directory)

9. expand Fallout - meshes -> meshes and click on 'interface'

10. Select all of the meshes on the right and click extract. Select your Fallout New Vegas/Data directory and hit ok.

11. Now open up Fallout - Textures2.bsa in your Fallout New Vegas/Data folder with FOMM.

12. Expand Fallout - Textures2 -> Textures -> Interface and click on 'main'.

13. Select all of the textures on the right and click extract.

14. Select your Fallout New Vegas/Data folder and hit ok.

15. Repeat steps 13 and 14 with interface -> loading and interface -> pause

16. Close FOMM and start the New Vegas launcher, click Data Files.

17. Check Fallout.esm and hit ok.

18. Launch the game and load your save, once in-game press the tilde key (~) to activate the console.

19. Type 'coc Springvale' and press enter. (NOTE: I would advise that you do NOT save your game while trying this out)

As you can see, it does load and you can run around and interact with stuff and talk to people. There are many bugs though, and various things that need to be fixed. I'll be working at that for now. I'm just sort of fixing things as I see them with a separate esp. Obviously Fallout 3 esm loads just fine in the new GECK.
