Something Is definetly wrong with me/my game

I am not experienced in modding fallout. I used the dragon age nexus and it worked just fine. Every mod I have tried to install for new vegas has the same effect. I place or extract the mod into the data folder then proceed to start the launcher. I go to click on the mods in the data options and start the game. Everything is cool. The game starts up but as soon as the first menu shows up (the one with the fat amount of small writing about copyrights) the game shudders then minimizes. When I try to maximize it it just minimizes again. That goes on for as long as I have patience to keep trying. I have tried to install the civil defense radio mod and the type 3 body re-placer thing. Just now I tried to use the NVMM and even that caused it shudder and minimize. What am I doing wrong?

This is just theorycrafting but an uninstallation/reinstallation might help you. I've had similar issues with other games and sometimes this will help by replacing damaged / broken files with the originals. I'm running 14+ mods fine right now including type 3 with no issue so I hope this'll help you. Fallouts are meant to be modded ;) If not post some more info about it and I'll see if I can replicate the crash. -Borch1d.

Complementing what the person above said, if you're using vista or windows 7 DON'T install the game on the default folder c:\program files, this folder is protected by UAC and might cause problems.

*Ignore, forgot this is new vegas which use steam not fallout 3.

One of the good things about steam that is undervalued is that it can find broken files in your installation and fix them without you having to do a complete uninstall/reinstall. doesn't always work, but it's worth a try and saves a ton of time if it does work. I haven't done it in awhile, but i believe it's called "validate install" or similar.

Seems like a load order issue...Maybe the game is trying to load a plugin file ( .esp ) before the master file ( .esm ).

Check your load order and make sure that Fallout.esm is the first in the line, then if you have any pre-order pack, like caravan or tribal, make it 2nd, then all .esm files from mods, and then .esp.

Something like this :

Fallout.esm [0]

Caravan.esm [1]

Mymod.esm [2]

MyMod.esp [3]

etc...
