Messy Tree in Windows Explorer

I just got done installing a few mods. I noticed that the tree from Fallout: New Vegas was descending to expose every folder and file. I noted that a bunch of other tree branches for other folders were too.

I clicked on the arrow to reset the folder C:/Program Files (x86) to closed. Now I thought that would suffice. Back in the day when I thought CTD's were caused by bad Modder's it never occurred to me that their mods were just fine and that a tree might be open even though I closed its main folder.

Yes! It was a tool that asked me if I wanted to clean my registry for the RegEdit area that gave me a clue things were not well when all the little branches were either: no longer valid registry keys or the registry had so many additions and deductions it had a few dozen folders opened with their limbs exposed.

I saw the registry keys all neatly packed after I used a registry cleaner and wondered if the Windows Explorer may give us the same problem. Needless to say, I happened across several folders that, when I opened them other folders in the branched were already open. Woof! I mean HUNDREDS of file folders were open.

Just to experiment with the idea I went through all the folders in C:/Program Files (x86) and found a bunch. So I clicked on their descending arrows closing them one by one manually.

I wonder why my game runs without so many annoying crashes now?

I can't say that the closing of all the random folders did the trick, but I can say that when I click on any of the folders in the Windows Explorer area they are as neat a the regedit area that my registry cleaner leaves behind after it does that job automatically for me.

Could your Regedit registry area and your Windows Explorer be clogging up your computers fine functions too? :wallbash:

Right... Don't worry. The crashing will return. Any sanity you experience with Gamebryo is always a temporary thing. I can't count the number of times someone has made a thread about how they "fixed" Fallout 3 with one random thing or another only to be disappointed about a week later when the bad behavior returns. It's Gamebryo, I'm telling you. It's just a bad engine.

Gamebryo? I saw a mod claiming to automatically set up a restore point, install an old codex, and Gamebryo was the engine mentioned in the description of what it makes work. The person said it would work for XP and Windows 7, Since I have Vista as my game machine software I didn't think it would be a good idea to try it.

Can that be done to improve the Gamebryo engine in Vista?

Thanks for clarifying the Windows Explorer area for me. I noted with Vista closing the Parent folder actually closes all branches of the parent folder if the parent is the only one closed.

Where, in the registry, the clutter is made worse as software, "Games, e-Mail, Internet Explorer, Word processor," and many other tasking software is opened and closed. While the majority of stuff is reset in the registry it makes me wonder,

I know that a registry cleaner removes dead registry stuff from loading and deleting files and programs which leave clutter, no use files there, over time.

I wonder if a registry cleaning software tool with registry defrag tool included is actually doing any good to help the computer maintain smooth operations?
