Hello, I am having some problems running Oblivion, I can run Crysis with max graphics yet I can't run Oblivion on medium!

I usually get around 20 fps while in the wilderness and sometimes it drops lower when something happens, or a dense forest, Inside I get

around 50-60 which also sometimes drops, I don't know why I'm having these problems I would appreciate any help.

Also, if this has come up before, I'm sorry, I did a quick check and couldn't find it so I posted here, Thanks.

These are not problems. Oblivion is an old game, and it doesn't matter how powerful your rig is, in a heavily modded game, 20 fps is pretty standard in outside areas with lots of props. Some people, in fact, would sell their granny for 20 fps. You cannot compare Oblivon to Crysis I'm afraid.

Man I wish I got normally 20 fps outside. Inside I get upwards of 100, but outside (too many mods!) I get usually in between 5 and 20. And this is on my better computer, on my laptop, I'd be lucky to get 20 fps inside.

Long story short, hickory is completely right. If you really want better performance, though, there are a few mods that help with stuttering. Just go on tesnexus and look around the utilities section (there might be a more specific section, but I haven't browsed the nexus in a while, so I don't know their updated categories).

I noticed that my low fps seems to be connected with water reflections. as soon as I turn it off in the options menu, I get a noticeable performance boost. if you're using mods like crowded cities/roads, then turning them off might further increase your fps.

this site might help you as well: http://sites.google.com/site/ballofflame/theoblivionperformanceproject

scroll down to "ini Settings and Tweaks to Consider" and modify your ini accordingly.

Actors load farther away (depending on your settings) as well as TONS of other objects outside. Something that seems to really eat fps is the Oblivion AI. More companions or actors seems to be the biggest hit on fps (on my system anyway). Outside areas obviously have a lot more actors loaded, and even things like enchantments on these actors affect the fps. The game contstantly does weapon dmg calculations per actor per weapon base, per weapon skills/attributes and per enchantment. Try taking 10 companions indoors and you will experiance "outdoor" fps..lolz.

I guess it depends on your hardware. If you have a lower-end cpu, then the AI will lag, and npcs and scripts and creatures will cause lag. If your graphics card is low-end then trees, water reflections, distant LOD and fancy armor will cause extreme lag. Me it's a little of both on my good computer, and a LOT of both on my laptop.
