Problems: Patches&Discs and lots of other nonsense

Hey

Okay, so I first had Oblivion on my XBox 360. When I sold my XBox I got it on PC. Then I got Fallout 3 for PC and started modding it. THEN I got Oblivion GoTY Edition for PC at my Dad's house and started modding it on his Windows 7 laptop. So I bring it home and start modding it and everything goes wrong; Patches and bugs and whatnot.

Firstly, I installed a whole bunch of mods all in one; OOO, Zumb's Lockpicking, Stealth Overhaul, Two body replacers, Lots of OOO addons, Living economy, za_bank mod, MAO, DMC Stylish and DarnUI, oh and a 3rd Person Camera mod aswell, and a Firey Menu Loop Video mod... Something went wrong and I had to uninstall everything. Then when I had done that, I placed DISC 2 of the Pack in my PC and halfway through it pops up with a little window:

Feature: DefaultFeature.. thats all I can remember from it

THEN, I had to uninstall and reinstall oblivion again. I tried to patch it to the 1.2.416 and at about 5% / 7% / 13% a window pops up, stating: "Old file not found. However, a file with the same name was found."

This is where I begin to give up, I've been attempting this for too long. Normally I would've just gone on with life and be grateful for what I usually had. But I NEED this patch for Assassin's Creed 2 Revisited. I don't care about DLC, i'll sort that out later. But AC2 Revisited is mandatory in my TESIV

I love the game and I really wan't to get things working as I know a lot of great mods require 1.2.416. So please if anyone could give me any advice. If I need to elaborate in areas I will. Any help will be extremely appreciated, I've had problems before and the Nexus community have always been so helpfull. Again, any help.

Thanks, Regards. ;D

When you install both disk 1 and disk 2 of GoTY Oblivion, it is patched automatically. You do not need to apply an additional official patch.

On Win 7/Vista, you should not install the game in c:\Program Files (x86) - put it someplace else like c:\games\oblivion. This will keep you from beating your head against the lovely new windows UAC security features that cause multiple subtle problems for an older program such as Oblivion. (It may be why you got an error when you tried to install Disk 2 of Oblivion - because it wanted to modify (patch) Oblivion and the windows security did not wish to permit it.)

After you have installed Oblivion (both disks), then you can start installing the other mods that you listed; reading the documented requirements and installation instructions. You likely also want OBMM, or Wrye Bash (or both), and need BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software).

Disc 2 of the GoTY package is corrupt, I think. It won't fully install the DLC and thus doesn't patch it.

I'm struggling with Wrye Bash. I'll have to have a look into that, Is it mandatory? Because I have OBMM installed and working fine. But BOSS i've never heard of. Thankyou.

If it's GotY, it installs automatically with 1.2.0416.

Well. It dosn't install automatically. I've checked my .exe file and the fileversion isn't 1.2.416. I'm wandering if a no CD patch is worth a try?

Thanks for the speedy replies guys.

If Disc 2 is bad, take it back to where you bought it and demand a replacement that works.

1. The patches will not work on a no-CD modified Oblivion.

2. Noone here will help you with problems involving a cracked Oblivion.

3. You would get banned from Tesnexus as a pirate by the admin staff here if you ask for help with a cracked Oblivion.

I'd say that it's not worth a try...

If you have the GOTY do not install any patches. Also, do not install any mods before installing the second disk. Just uninstalling by using the uninstall on the disk does not really uninstall. And deleting the oblivion folders will not fully uninstall either a there are entries in the Windows registry that will be left behind. - When you start installing mods don't make the noob mistake of installing a bunch of mods at once - that is asking for problems - install one at a time and test to be sure it works before installing another.

If you feel that a fresh install is in order: Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexus. If you follow it, it fixes most reinstall problems.

It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.

I have seen a lot of commotion about all these no CD Cracks and I don't want to get into anything. If ever I would use one is if I lost the disc. But okay, i'll follow your advice.

No luck. But not too worry, I grabbed my copy, receipt and bike and cycled down to Chorley. They wouldn't actually give me another copy because there was something wrong with the disc, but I found a new GOTY edition for 99 pence. Get that?! I'm all set and happily playing now, thanks guys.
